Closed back for travelling, under 300

more_vert
Hello, I have a long list of headphones that I would like to purchase in the future, and since I want to drain my bank account, I was looking for a closed back, audiophile headphone that I could do some travelling with. I already have a B&W PX7 for school trips and for long train/bus runs, but I found out that after a while the bass starts to get too much. On my list of closed backs I included an Aeon Closed X, but that is for another year. Any suggestions?

Don't sleep on Meze Classic and Noir sets as they may be $10 over 300, but are worth it. Even their Neo's for 200 are close in comparison. Meze's been doing good work on that price range in my opinion. They may also be considered an audiophile brand with that style of headphone 9may vary depending on who you ask as well). I'd suggest ATH M50xs or BeyerDynamic DT770s, but it sounds like you'll want less of a flat response that a lot of music makers like, so I'd avoid Beyer and Audio Technica here. Sennheiser crossed the Pro Audio-Consumer/Audiophile mark so they could be worth a glance. AKG is also a slept-on brand in my opinion. Still a Pro Audio lean, but the K271 MKIIs and K553s MKIIs look like they'd fit what you're looking for. I've always found them comfy and rather stylish. All subjective though. Happy hunting!

Totally! Ya to each their own man. AKGs are good though I've heard similar good and bad mixes of user feedback on their cans. Beyers are great especially for a flatter FR, but AKGs are certainly a studio standard as well. I used DT990 pros and AKGs as well on a session at a local studio last night. Good to see these sets in action. Thanks and you too!

Bedlam-InsideHaha well, AKG is one of my favourite Audio brands, even though I have never owned one. The K7 range is popular for their "unnaturally" wide soundstage, which is one of the reasons why they seem so... cool. I've owned a pair of DT990 80 ohms and they were nice and comfortable, but didn't blow me away. Great gaming headphones though. May I ask which studio you go to? And what do you do there? I wish I could just Drop (lol) by and just test them out. Would be fun to play with. Hope to hear from you again!
