i have one, errr, more than one. i use separate because phones sound crap, have crap battery life and because phones dont have hardware controls. i want to control volume and track from inside my pocket for which touch screens are utterly useless and battery draining.

Actually every smartphone I've seen so far had volume buttons :) and they can be used to switch tracks (by long pressing), although this often requires root.

ive not tried longpressing the volumes button directly on phones (just mic'd and buttoned cables) but that still doesnt solve them having tiny battery lives and sounding rubbish. though granted both should be curable if makers wanted to.

Yup. If compact DAPs can do that, I have no doubt a 5.5" phone can do it too. By the way, my HTC Sensation was OK for almost a full day of listening, and that's a quite old phone. So it's definitely possible, but unfortunately, nowadays the goal of manufacturers is not to make good phones but to milk as much money as possible from customers. I do agree that having a DAP is a hundred times better than listening out of a phone.

funny you mention the sensation, i once reviewed the sensation XE, you know the "beats" one. my sister still uses it as her DAP (seperate form her phone for mostly battery reasons)
still the key is, that once apple realise they could stop using Wolfson DAC's in the ipod line whin they moved to the ipod "classic" and slapped in a super cheap cirrus logic was when they realised that most people didnt care or couldnt tell the difference. i mean if your using ibuds even the most crappy DAC and amp isnt likely to be the limiting factor.
however LG's recient G5 DAC module did give me hope but LG are cealrly just using it as a marketing thing, i mean why else go wild about B&O branding and yet give out zero specs on the thing?

specificaly i know the 5G ones do, i think some earlier ones may have also but for capacity reasons it really is the 5G and the so called 5.5G ones. its the one just before they started calling that line the Ipod Classic

About to receive my replacement Focal Elex and worried about quality
My original Elex left driver went out 10 months in. The replacement is soon to be delivered. I'm worried that the same thing will happen to the replacement at some point. I've ordered the upcoming Drop HD-8xx hoping that it will usable for me like the Elex has been. With the Drop HD-8xx the inherent lift in the highs of the HD 800's has been partially dealt with and some lows added. I honestly don't like hyped treble when using headphones. I'm hoping that there is an open back phone that is somewhat linear like the Elex, and has a similar sonic signature. I don't want another headphone from Focal; just can't deal with this again. What non-Focal linear open back headphone easily competes with the Elex?

What to do with one side dead (Focal Elex)?
I have a pair of focal elex headphones. By far one of the best I've had but one side went dead yesterday. Not the cable issue and read that it is common with them. Could you advise what to do? Can it be fixed locally? Given it right be the driver or copper cable inside?

THX AAA 789 Amazing sound
Online reviews spoke highly, but I was suprised by the detail in the sound. I was using a Dac/amp with an msrp of 1400 so I did not expect much. I did notice an immediate clarity improvement. Music, specifically words were no longer blurred.Singers seemed to make more of an effort to enunciate words more. Even using a $100 DAC the sound was top notch. Drop hit a home run with this product.
