I've exclusively bought mechanical keyboard related things from here, but i have had to pay customs charges for all but one order. Charges have varied between £11 and £45
There are two places that deal with customs charges afaik, royal mail directly or a company called CCL (Customs Charge Limited).
One thing to watch out for is that for some reason massdrop uses a random internal email address for customs notices and does not forward this on to the user, CCL in particular only sends an email about charges so unless you are manually keeping track of the parcel, you never get this notice and the parcel is returned or lost without you ever knowing.
I find tracking the parcel and calling CCL directly with the order number is the only way to resolve this.
If its royal mail who are dealing with the charges i normally get an actual letter, so i can pay them as normal.

MiddTechHow legit is CCL? I am waiting for a MassDrop parcel, and I have recieved a text from CCL asking me to pay a customs fee, but it does not look legit at all. It know's my order is from massdrop, but the tracking number and order number are wrong, and I was sent this text before my item had even arrived in the UK. USUALLY if I have a customs fee, I get a card through the post from Royal Mail (or DHL, etc) letting me know my parcel has arrived but I must pay customs fees. I have NEVER gotten a text about it. And I find no information at all on any uk government websites about them using CCL.

cloudioesI bought a keyboard recently and it was over the £135 import limit. CCL contacted me about paying VAT and handling charges, parcel was then sent on via Royal Mail. All worked at treat, except RM striking of course...

mehrdadgogIf the total including shipping is £135 or less, there's no more to pay. If it's over £135 you have to pay VAT at 20%, a handling fee (usually around £10) and possibly import duty as well, although this is unlikely.
