Emergency Kit Food/Ration Options

more_vert
Hey Outdoors community, I'm building a household emergency kit. Was hoping you guys could help recommend a good option for long shelf life emergency foods/rations. I'm thinking about the following attributes (correct me if I'm missing anything) 1) Easy to consume 2) Reasonable shelf stable 3) Moderately compact I'm looking for something that balances attributes. This is a 3-5 day emergency kit, not a "survive the zombie apocalypse" kit. Disclaimer: I am not an outdoors person. The most I've done is sat at the back of a car drinking beer and sleeping in a tent that my wife setup for me. Left to my own decision making, I would probably buy 3 boxes of Cliff bars from Costco and call it a day- but I have a family to look after... Thanks in advance for your help! For emergency situation at home I would try to find fresh MRE meals... the advantage of those - they are self heating and include everything except water... Disadvantage - bulky... Shelf life I think is 5 to 6 years guaranteed but realistically should last considerably longer.

Mountain House! Hands down. You won't find all the chemicals they use in some of the mainstream emergecy food products out there..
