Prime Time Deal Headphone Recommendations

more_vert
Hey hey hey lovely Drop community. I'm a music lover for a really long time. I don't have audiophile grade equipments but I'm trying to step up my game. Right now, I have a Porta Pro for casual, entertaining listening, a Bose QC15 for noice cancelling and a WF1000XM4 for daily mobile listening. I just got a Audioquest Dragonfly Black from Amazon prime day deals and now I'm considering to get a headphone to pair with the Dragonfly. Mostly, I listen electronic (Old school trance) and indie, indie-pop music. Do you guys have any recommendations for me? I was thinking about these options but couldnt choose: Sennheiser 58X Jubilee Sennheiser 6XX Bayerdynamics DT770, DT990 Pros Hifiman HE-X4 (the price of this was 99 in Drop but now 129) Some of these beauties are cheaper in other places as well so as long as I decide on what to get, I will look for the vendors! Thanks a lot! Best

What's your price range? do you care about having cables connected to the headphones? The drop community is a bad place to ask advice, no one posts here and the information quality is as good as Reddit (aka garbage, anyone can reply, and worse, anyone can upvote) use audiosciencereview for reviews of headphones if you are choosing between a few (they don't review all of them but still super helpful if they're on there) think critically about getting an open back headphone. if you live with others you can only use it if they're not in the room since it will annoy them if they're in the room with you. you can't (shouldn't) use open back headphones while travelling because you'll piss off everyone around you. open back headphones can also cause echoes on voice calls since they act as a second mini speaker for the mic to pick up. if you have the isolation and desire for open back, they usually have better sound stage (making them preferred for listening), and usually have slightly reduced bass compared to close back. hard skip the he 4xx, lifeless cans (i own them). unpleasant sound which is surprising for planars. i'd also hard skip the planar dekoni blue, the bass is way too over emphasized. But if you want planars and like bad headphones (like v-modas) you might like the dekonki blue. i'd personally skip all beyerdynamics, they don't know how to design earcups, they're uncomfortable and pinch at the top of the head, and my ears touch the inside of the cups/drivers, which causes pain after long listening sessions. although you own the porta pros, which are terrible for comfort because on-ear (like grados, worst comfort headphones ever made) so maybe you don't care as much about long term listening pain. I have the dt 880 pros and they're gathering dust. I'd stay away from the Aeons, all models have an issue with the pads where the foam under the pad leather degrades/rolls out of shape, causing warped pads, which reduces seal and comfort. I don't know why people keep buying the Aeons, mine are gathering dust after being on my 3rd set of pads that are also warped now. Poor production quality unacceptable at the price point. the sennheiser 5xx-6xx are basically all indistinguishable from each other from a sound perspective, and all good to very good cans. I own the 598 (non-drop) and 6xx (drop). I don't use them often because I have higher end cans that I use in favor of them (including the hd800 s), but lower end cans from senn are both very good headphones. If you go sennheiser i'd go for the higher end 6xx model (because why not). i haven't tried the 650 so can't vouch for it. it looks like you're looking cheaper but if you're considering higher end open back i'd put the focals seriously on your radar, the elex are the same or near identical driver and sound to the focal clears (I own the clears, i'm basing this driver comment off an audiscience review) and the clears sound great. if you want close back and don't like wires i'd also put in a serious recommendation for the apple airpod max, I don't like noise cancelling headphones because it messes with the sound, but airpod max are good and they have a passive mode. sound is good and great features if you have other apple hardware
