Drop/Sennheiser PC38X sound seems to be broken

more_vert
I purchased a PC38X a while back to be used as a headset for online meetings, etc. It worked great when I first got it but yesterday all of a sudden, the sound quality and volume is terrible. The sound is "tinny", like I'm listening to really cheap speakers, and I have to crank up the volume on my laptop to hear anyone in the meeting. I initially thought it was the volume control knob on the headset itself, but it's turned all the way up. I'm assuming the mic works fine as I didn't get any complaints during the meeting. Thinking it could be the cable, I put the same cable on a PC37X that I have and it sounded great, so I don't think it's the cable. By the way, I've used it intermittently, maybe once or 2X per week when I am in the office. I use a different headset when I am working remotely. So it's not like I'm abusing the headset, it still looks new. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Patrick

Patrick, I've run into a similar issue with my Airpods before in Microsoft Teams. I was like WTF, why does it suddenly sound like I'm in a metal tunnel.. For some reason, Windows 10/Teams gives two options to select as an Audio source for my Airpods. This happened out of nowhere. Maybe it was an update, or maybe I never noticed it before. Anyways, one is titled as Headset, and one is titled as Headphone. Basically, if it sounds bad, select the other option. Granted, this is via Bluetooth, and your PC37X are hardwired, so this may not be the same issue. I just thought I would share, just in case it helps.

N848N848, Thanks for the reply. Weird thing, it was reacting the same way on 2 different laptops yesterday. Late morning today, I had to reboot my work laptop as it wasn't recognizing ANY headsets, and I had a Zoom meeting coming up. After the reboot, my one headset was working and just for kicks, I tried the PC38X and it decided to work fine! I haven't tested it on the 2nd laptop yet but maybe it was a Windows issue. I noticed that the reboot installed some updates so I'll see if I need to download updates on the 2nd laptop. Again, thanks for the reply!
