SENSE75 Barebones

more_vert
Our last update on the SENSE75 was in response to the thoughtful feedback we received after delivering a few prototypes to creators in the Mech Keys community. As we sent out those prototypes before we were in production, we had the opportunity to re-incorporate some of our original design, as well as explore some of the detailed suggestions made by Keybored, BadSeedTech, and others. But we did more than that. Working tirelessly during and after the initial launch, we’ve created, in our view, an unprecedented set of new options designed that will allow you to tune and balance the SENSE75 gasket flex and sound dampening to your own personal “Goldilocks” preference. The final SENSE75 design now features:
  • 2-millimeter-thick PE force-break points on each corner to absorb sound transfer between the top and bottom case.
  • A 3.5-millimeter-thick EVA foam layer between PCBA and switch plate.
  • Two layers of dampening between PCBA and bottom case: a 2-millimeter-thick layer and a 3-millimeter-thick layer, both made of polymer foam. This gives you the ability to “fill the space” for maximum dampening, or easily remove either layer for more gasket flex. The foam we’ve chosen is porous for good absorption and soft enough to allow gasket movement that’s even with all layers.
  • A pre-cut, fitted sheet of PCB tape in the box for those who want to take the extra step.

As long as we’re on the topic of customization, we’ve also promised the community some additional options. So, we’ll specify here that the first ones in development are a carbon fiber plate, an FR4 plate, and a brass bottom weight. There will be more info on those to come—and, as always, your ideas are welcome. While we know some feel that the fully-built SENSE75 is a bit pricey, we believe the attention to detail, the build quality, and all the customization choices—plus the inclusion of DCX keycaps and Holy Panda X switches—are more than worth it. But, for those of you who prefer your personal favorites over the value we built in, we are pleased to announce that the SENSE75 Barebones is now available to order. Priced at  $249, it includes all the customizations above—without keycaps or switches. That gives those of you keen on acoustics the ability to choose different switches (like linear variants). Here are some sound demos we recorded to show differences.

Lastly, we’re guessing more than a few of you missed out on the special launch bundle for fully assembled SENSE75—which included extra MT3 keycaps, a carrying case, and a special novelty keycap—because you were waiting to see exactly what we did with the final design. To all of you: we understand. That’s why we’re bringing the launch bundle back for a limited time. We’re also offering it retroactively to all current purchases. But we didn’t want barebones users to miss out—which is why we’re also offering a new launch bundle for the new SENSE75 Barebones. Act fast, and you can get a free MT3 keycap set of your choice with your new barebones board. This launch perk is limited to the first 300 keyboards sold. As always, thank you for providing your feedback!

Glad to see some good follow-up on the feedback you all got on the pre-production model. Looks like a much better package everyone will be getting. Also really like the plate options you're working on, FR4 would absolutely be my plate of choice here.
