Is it possible for connections to be on the back? I honestly don't understand why people continue to put the ports on the side.

Keebmonkey is sourcing parts and putting them in an case. I bet you can find the exact screen on the china wholesaler sites. The inputs are on the side bc they are made to lay flat for DIY ardruneo and raspberry Pi projects or other home brew projects.

Not an engineer, but wouldn't that require one of the smallest daughter boards imaginable?
Or make the bloody housing triangular and save the hassle of the bloody stand.

andrewtranimalIt might no need a daughterboard. Vertically mounted ports for SMT assembly are a thing. They can be more susceptible to wear and damage, and may cost more and not be as easy for the assembly house to install. As others have pointed out, this would also likely affect the depth of the device.
