Ctrl keyboard getting increasingly more numerous repeat character hits

more_vert
I have a Ctrl keyboard that's about 2 years old and for the past 6 months I've been getting increasingly more numerous repeat characters when I hit a key. Some keys are worse than others. Backspace will wipe out 3 characters at a time. It takes forever to login to some sites or compose an email. Is there anything I can do short of buying something else?

Clique is correct, first thing to try is swap one of the switches you use less with one that is malfunctioning. This will most likely fix the problem. If this does not fix the problem, try a different usb cable, or the other usb port on the Ctrl. last thing to try is a different usb port on your pc. You should have a switch puller in your Ctrl box, just make sure the pins on the switches are streight when replacing them, otherwise you can damage the switch or the pcb.

I don't have a real solution for you but I am here to say that this has happened to several of my keyboards, sometimes at the 2-year line, sometimes sooner: a OneTouch, then a OneTouch Plus, most recently a Das, a Northgate long ago. There are a number of reasons people said this happened -- the electrical of the switches is at a different rate then the computer (or something like that), but the most likely reason are the switches. And then you have to take apart the board, de-solder the switches, and solder in replacements -- unless the Ctl is hot-swappable? In which case it's an easy fix, no soldering required to, well, swap out the switches. I'm sure someone else can 'splain this better, but no one else has so I thought I would at least give you a compass. I don't suppose the board is under warranty? Maybe sometime at Drop can help you further. It would be a shame to send the board to a landfill. Good luck 🤞
