Thanks
Short version: these have everything you need included to play music from PC or smartphone. These are active speakers, and as such they have a built-in “power amp.” So, you can just plug these straight into the headphone port if your computer has one. If your PC/smartphone does not, then you can use the BMR1’s built-in Bluetooth, DAC, and amp.

EvshrugThere is no DAC unless you are talking about the bluetooth chipset. There is no USB input, unfortunately. But it would be a quite simple, albeit costlier, to pick up a small external DAC if, like me, you only want to make an USB connection to your device.
Hyperfocal2112Depends on how you look at it. If you want to use USB, or an audio source that does not offer either Bluetooth out or 3.5mm out, then yes you would want additional components. USB is hardly the only way to feed digital audio to a DAC. However, I’ve noted that most people who ask this question have a PC with a 3.5mm output, not realizing that technically the motherboard has integrated DAC/amp chips. For example, the BMR1 plays just fine with the 3.5mm headphone jack on my Mac Mini or my custom built PC (the rear 3.5mm jacks sound better than the front panel headphone jacks). My RK2023 has a headphone jack. My phone and tablet don’t have headphone jacks… but they have Bluetooth, and that works. I never said the BMR1 has a USB input, you are correct it doesn’t.
