Just how small is the sweet spot when listening to these? Can it fit 2 people? Will those sound good on a coffee table or do they need to be placed on a desk?

They’re designed for wide dispersion… so not as narrow a sweet spot as other nearfield monitor speakers, but also it should be less diffuse than a soundbar. So, inbetween those two options, unless you and your listening partner are seated far away.
