HD6XX Upgrade Path

more_vert
My first nice headphone was and still is an HD6XX. I recently purchased a similarily priced headphone and it only made me realize how good the HD6XX are. Whats your recommended upgrade path for someone starting with HD6XX?

I went from HD 6XX to Focal Elegia. I know Elegia is not Clear but they are now reasonably priced (discounted over 50% from original price since they are being retired). I also was looking for closed back design cans that I could take on the plane or train but without noise canceling interference. I don't believe Elegia is my end game cans, but they complement HD 6XX

In my opinion considering Price to performance ratio, HD6XX is really hard to beat. You can consider it as an endgame tbh unless you go for the top tier ones like the Arya, LCDX, Clear, etc. My journey took me from m50 to D200 to hd6xx to (the jump in price doesn't justify the upgrade) ananda to ( my endgame) Clear and LCDX. Still have my 6XX though.

:D coming up with a theoretical upgrade path where HD6XX is the starting point (Drops most sold headphone) is dumb and unanswerable according to you?Statistically It's the most relevant question you could ask on this forum in terms of upgrade path as HD6XX is the most sold headphone from Drop. Logic says more people will ask this very question so why not answer it for people who come across it in the future.

RaegonjinI'm looking into everything you suggested, it's going to take a couple weeks but wow those Focals look outstanding. You are not kidding when you say top tier. The HD6XX's are definitely hard to beat as I've tried a few headphones in the price range without finding something I'd use over them.
