Just installed my space in the new house and I kept my essentials : custom coiled cable, wrist rest and beloved DCX Permafrost keycaps. Also had some space on the left and decided to showcase the LOTR Elvish keyboard, could not resist it. Do you go for aesthetics or functionality when adding a new item to your setup? I have to say both. When choosing a product I tend to look at the aesthetic first so it matches with mine. But if the product does not work correctly or does not match my needs I will have to send it back. It also has to be functional so I can use it and not only have it on display. What determines which items have a “permanent” space in your setup? My setup and work space is the place in which I spend most of my time. It is where I work on my projects, edit and also plan all of my content. The space has to be cosy, welcoming and also meet my everyday needs. A product that will match my aesthetic, be functional and perform well will for sure stay longer in my setup. What was the most frivolous addition to your battlestation that you absolutely don’t regret? My custom coiled (or straight) cables ! Most keyboards come with a perfectly good working cable but I find that this detail is a nice added bonus. This way you get to personalize even more your space and can match your keyboard or current theme. What was the desktop/setup item that surprised you the most? Something that you didn’t expect to hold on to after you tried it?

A white monitor arm ! They are just so practical, easy to place and adjust according to your liking. I thought it was going to be an item I would not particularly enjoy but I recently moved and kept this tem since they are so practical : saves desk space and can be moved easily.

Do you have any favorite desktop items that would surprise your followers?

A wrist rest ! My first wrist rest was actually a gift I got after getting my first custom keyboard and I have not let it go since. I was not sure if I would like it and it turned out to be super comfortable for my wrists since most of the keyboards I have are a higher profile. I always recommend a resin one since they are soft and stay cool in the summer !

Adding/Including Memories

I lost my dad last year (2023) and have been finding ways to include keepsakes/memories in my workstation. I've dabbled here and there with doing small woodworking projects and attempted a wrist rest from a piece of oak I picked up with him from my great uncles wood shop. I milled it to fit a 60% keyboard as I hadn't decided what keyboard I would be using it on and thought that's where most of my wrist would be in contact even typing on a full keyboard. I gave it a torched/burn appearance as I really was lost in what to do. I found an old shell casing from going hunting with my dad in my hunting pack and decided to imbed it into the end of the wrist rest so it would just have a little difference and a small story behind it as well. I have other things around my workstation from family and friends, but it just feels a little more special having worked on it and adding something small that has a memory for me to it. (Purple was my grandmothers favorite color and I have kinda now...
