Please do a video showcasing the sound of the keyboard in various configurations (including foamless). Anyone can make a board sound good with tons of foam (nothing wrong with that - it's all preference) so the trend currently is to see what a board sounds like with nothing else in it as it showcases the "real" sound of a board. MODE has this down btw. Why don't you guys buy a couple of those boards - namely the Sonnet and Envoy and take notes.

fresh1024Here you go, BadSeed Tech did sound tests with various foam configurations. I've linked to the foamless one but you can also checkout all the other configurations.

Will the keycaps shown on this board be available separately? Like as a set with similar key sizes like in the DCX sets?

jsaylerYes, but not on launch day. We're working on making the keycaps available as a standalone product in a TKL kit for those buying barebones but want the stock keycaps, as well as a full base kit with wider coverage.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that despite the focus on customization, there will be a single, set ANSI layout with a 6.25u spacebar, and no other supported configurations from the plates or PCB.

HarvestDayAlways has been what kept me from buying a Drop board. I need my 1.5u Control and Alt!
I don't recall what the original reason was for that design choice, maybe they thought Standard would reach the most people in terms of keycap compatibility but basically every keyset they sell covers the other layouts too.

The sound test is interesting, but in the video, there was nearly every details except...which plate was used. I'm assuming POM since it's a bit thockier and muted, but would love clarification :)

th3doorMATTThe stock configuration (fully-built & barebones) comes with a polycarbonate plate which is what was used in the video.

I mean I always take out all the foams now even the keyboards have foam in it. Prefer clacky build now, foamy sound are so boring.

How would that be false advertising? They could just make a video showcasing the sound in multiple configurations so that customers can make a more informed decision on how the board would sound in the type of build they typically prefer or are used to.

What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. Silent Holy Panda X?
I ordered some Holy Panda X switches, and I fell in love with them. They are a joy to type on. There's just one problem. The place that I use my keyboard to type the most is obviously at work, which is a problem if I want to use the Holy Panda X in the office around a whole bunch of people. I really don't want to torture my coworkers with the clack of these switches. I'd rather they still liked me. The good news is that, for me, the actuation of the Holy Panda X is the best part. I could take or leave the sound it makes; even if it is fantastic. Which leads me to my conundrum: is there another "silent" switch that feels similar to the Holy Panda X? Is there a piece I can remove from the Holy Panda X that would allow me to make them silent? Or am I going to have to wait and see if Drop will drop a Silent Holy Panda X for the in-office mech community?

Mounting / Acoustics / Feedback: The CSTM is gasket mounted to optimize for typing feedback, acoustics and ease of customization. Gasket mounting has been all the rage for a while and we’ve all seen different implementations, though not all are equal. In many ways, the drive for customization and options led us to offer a product that can be built out in many ways in order to find an individual’s optimal preferences when they are using their keyboard. Bouncy / Flex Due to the decentralized nature of the keyboard community, as new tech developments come, their names and degree of preference can run the gamut. Naming sometimes doesn't stick or definitions remain somewhat nebulous. For example, bouncy and flexy are often used interchangeably in the community but they actually describe two different things that can be customized to your preference. For our purposes, we define bounce as the ability for the plate + PCB assembly to move up and down in the case. Flex is the interaction of the plate + PCB assembly and how much give that assembly has. Sound How good a keyboard sounds has become a key criterion when users are making their selection. However, while the consensus towards what a “good” sounding keyboard is less nebulous than something like bounce and flex, there is still subjectiveness to it. In addition, trade-offs can happen between the sound and typing feel of a keyboard. For example, if a keyboard is stuffed to the gills, it will generally sound better. However, since all the space inside the keyboard is filled, the ability for the keyboard to bounce will be limited. Customization With all of the above in mind, the CSTM allows a user to fully customize their overall typing experience. By default the keyboard ships with a full array of foam which sits between the plate, underneath the switches, and of course covering the bottom of the PCBA. The CSTM also uses a silicone gasket pad. This piece works in conjunction with the gasket mounting system in the CSTM keyboard while also dampening keyboard acoustics by filling in the space inside the keyboard case.
