What if there is a Massdrop community for bikes?

more_vert
In my experience, good bicycles are a very active niche market akin to headphones and keyboards. People try out new components, accessories, apparel and even new bikes constantly. And it's a market where tons of new innovations come out every year. There are a lot of competitor shopping websites but Massdrop should consider its edge.

Post your bike if you'd like to support the idea.

I'd love it if there was a community for biking. I.e road/hybrid/mtb. I could go for a new set of SPD pedals and Campy shift/break levers.

I also back this idea! Would love to have a community for both bike parts (anything from handlebars to chains to saddles to tires) and whole bikes.

With a bike community, you could easily do crossover drops with Ultralight (for bikepacking), and it would have more engagement compared to pre-existing communities (i.e.- Auto, why have Auto but not Bike?). Massdrop could easily compete with specialty retailers if it caters to niche groups too (like competing against DansComp for BMX or Pink Bike classifieds for urban MTB). This is also helped by the Massdrop community, which has historically supported hobbies with high cost of entry. I really thing a bike community would do well here.

100% back this, especially with the rise of e-bikes, and the BMX community, tons of potential money to be made as well as saving people a ton of cash on great products, for the bmx riders, some The Shadow Conspiracy parts would suite them well, or Odyssey.

Massdrop is missing out on a huge market here and it would be a perfect match. Cyclist are obsessed when it comes to their gear. It is a highly equipment/gear oriented sport. Cyclists will spend hundreds of dollars just to shave a few grams of weight from their bike, such as a lighter seat post, or other improvements such as areo gear and clothing. They are up there with audiophiles in chasing that completely elusive and unattainable perfection. Just do some research on You tube and you will see what I mean. A cyclist will be always on the lookout for gear for his/her road bike, off season they will be looking for the latest in off season clothing. The same cyclist will be searching for accessories for his mountain/trail bike, including latest cycling attire, or bicycle upgrades. Cyclist will go on treks and travel for days and camp outdoors on their multi day rides.  The market is endless and continually evolving with the latest, the lightest, the strongest, the most efficient gear for the riding experience. A cyclist will customize and transform his/her bike with upgrades and truly make it their own. Massdrop would find an entire new obsessed and committed community that take in all types, genders, ages, ethnics, and there's a lot of them. Likewise, the cyclist would find a home here. As you can tell there is a lot of enthusiasm in this sport, especially when it comes to their bikes and gear.

I think one of the main issues is cycling community itself, is pretty diverse and there are so many branches .....I don't think could be realistic ask speci items that could fit the all community

I have a 2016 Intense Recluse basic build. My first carbon bike, and my first 27.5 w/boost. I'm coming from a 2012 Yeti SB-66 with real nice Syntace wheels. I transferred my xtr brakes over but the rest is still low budget stock so I'll need some good deals on parts. I can't believe how much I like and miss carbon bars now that I'm using the house brand aluminum bars.

This has been coming up for a long time and while I've never seen anything to indicate that they are interested in starting a new community, I have been seeing bike related items showing up in drops periodically which is a good sign.
We must keep supporting those drops when they happen if they're ever going to start a community for them.

Yeah it would be great to have a bike (cycling) section. Some things that come to mind are good bike lights, comfy seats, better handlebars and pedals. Those are the things I replace on any new bike, typically.
