Find a class or a friendly knitter if you need to learn. YouTube is another good source for any craft including knitting, spinning, weaving, crochet, etc.

The Vogue Knitting Book! Not so much a “How To” for absolute beginners, but a tremendous reference that includes almost any info you will ever need. I teach knotting and I am always going onto Amazon to find the previous edition, which is available for about $6.00 (w/postage). You MUST search for it using the ISBN, as a newer version is out, and is excellent if you want to pay $30. I have it, but I give the older ones to my students. ISBN:0-394-57186-X

Elizabeth Zimmerman (sp?) book of knitting for beginners. The projects are outdated, but the book is a gem! Also, YouTube is invaluable; really helps to “see” a technique being done. Good luck, and happy knitting!

I really enjoy the videos from Knit Picks, verypink and Vicky Howell. Youtube is your friend, as well as drop in knitting sessions at your local craft store or anywhere a stitch and bitch or friendly knit session is. Check the calendars at your local bookstores, coffee shops, bars and public libraries. I know very few knitters who don't like to help out their peers. Some community education organizations have lessons in various crafts.

Being a visual/textile learner, I love youtube tutorials. That way I can see exactly what's happening.

I used the Stitch and Bitch book to teach myself. I found it had the most useful illustrations and descriptions.

MBTaylorCame here to recommend it! But I like the continental method and she doesn't go into it. Still a lot of really useful info. Great book.

I taught myself to knit! Started by searching Google..."how to knit". I found numerous videos, and went from there. One of my favorite sites is verypink.com. Great videos on everything yarn related. Ravelry is also a fantastic yarn community. Check out your local yarn shop...they are a great place for inspiration and help. Best of luck....and have fun☺

Wikihow.com has simple easy to follow instructions - I had tried other resources (books & websites), but it just didn't click until I found wiki. Ravelry.com is my go to for project ideas and patterns.

KatKnit17Ooh how could i have forgotten to include Ravelry? It definitely will light a fire under your ambition to acquire new skills. The user communities are priceless fonts of help as well; I've even been able to connect directly with the pattern designers and ask them questions!
