Is there any appetite for a Massdrop Made DAC based on the Khadas Tone Board for less than $200?

more_vert
As we know that there is a DAC based on the Khadas Tone Board for $350 on the market at the moment, would Massdrop be interested in making a case (hell use the Objective2 or Grace SDAC design language) for the Khadas Tone Board and selling the finished product for less than $200?

I think there would be an interest in a Massdrop/Drop offered Khadas Tone Board. Of course with appropriate discount and add-on options. This board has fantastic reviews and even though it is intended to be DIY right away, still a DIY kit for discount could be offered. There are multiple add-ons that could make it a more worthwhile proposition... and especially if the upcoming/planned morel with balanced output, is one of the options offered. Put that in a SDAC style case and you have a winner I think. I do like this case also though, I think that this case is the nicest/most traditional looking one that I have seen for the Khadas Tone Board so if not using SDAC case or wanting additional alternatives to offer this would be a nice and welcome option.

A nice looking commercial case has just recently become available, so it is possible to ship both card and case from France (or empty case from France and bare card from China separately) for well under US$200. https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/aluminium-boxes-cases/aluminum-case-for-khadas-tone-board-p-13626.html

PaulCoddingtonUnfortunately, the first run was made with the logos facing the wrong away. Assembly was asymmetric and people had backwards looking cases.

RoenYep, that happened to me as it turned out (I had not received it when I posted). Rough jagged silver edges as well. Had to argue back and forth a bit for a free replacement without having to pay again for shipping but finally got them to see sense. Replacement fixed the problem. Push comes to shove, a small spray can of black paint would have fixed it (labels are not really needed, given shape and color of sockets, and it would look much better without them on the top). Alternatively, the board and front and back panels can be reversed to resolve the problem, as it is not necessary to screw the board to the bottom of the case (the RCA sockets mounted in the back panel alone will hold it, as it is very light).

I'd rather just see them add SPDIF to the Grace SDAC.
