I have a Fiio x3 2nd gen. It's not perfect, but I like it. The menus are a little clunky, but it supports the formats I use (mostly ogg and flac), has replaygain support, works as a DAC on the PC, and sounds good. It also works with big memory cards (128GB, at least)
They were a bit slow to get some pretty essential features fixed/implemented, but they did eventually get there, and I'll definitely look at their current offerings next time I need a player.
MQA looks like a total gimmick to me. It looks mostly like not just a mediocre lossy format, but a THX-like certification program where they get to cash in on every step of the chain.
I say don't worry about it. It won't make your music sound any better, It just tells you that there was a pile of extra fees paid during the production of your music.

Thank you. I'm actually leaning pretty heavily toward the Fiio players at the moment.

We are in 2020 now and the world of portable audio has chanced a bit. There are more MQA palyers than ever right now. Tidal Masters is in MQA so YES definitely worth the money. HiBy R5 and R6 do both MQA. And even some LG smartphones. The discussion is ongoing. https://www.facebook.com/groups/689938551214806/

The world of portable audio has changed. Now even more people listening on phones with overpriced bluetooth earbuds that will hear even less diffence between audio formats. MQA still doesn't really improve anything for the end user. It's still using a lossy codec which is worse than others that are available (Though with lossy codecs there's some variance in what people like subjectively) Pretty much all it does is gives you a little light that says the people producing your music files spent the money and went through whatever silly certification is necessary to make the light turn on. If you need a light to validate that all the extra money you spent was worth it, maybe it wasn't actually worth it? At this point, if we want better sound, where the improvements need to come from are mixing/mastering (stop compressing the hell out of everything), and at the streaming services (learn to normalize downward to a reference level, instead of further destroying dynamics, and stop transcoding from lossy source material) With that alone, 192kbit ogg encoding like spotify has been using would actually sound just fine to most people. The reason it sounds bad now is not because of the final format it's presented in. It's cumulative losses from all the other steps of abuse, changing formats and bitrates, and feeding streams through bulk compression, etc.

Headphone amp with 80 ohm beyerdynamic headphones
I ordered my first pair of audiophile headphones, the beyerdynamic 990 80 ohm version because the nice man at audio46 said it wouldn’t need a headphone amp. My Q is although it wouldn’t need it, would adding a headphone amp to my iPhone make the 80 ohm sound better? Or is it strictly for the 250 ohms that they have to use a headphone amp . I mostly listen to hip hop and r&b music >

Pc38 mic issue on pc
So I bought the pc38s which sound amazing compared to all I have used prior, but no matter what I try, I can not get the mic working on my pc! It works fine when plugged into a controller for console, but simply wont on the pc. I own msi ge75 raider, it has two ports, one for headset, one for the mic! The cords that come with the headset are split into two, each is the 3 pin I think (TRS)... Maybe the port on the computer requires 4 pin or what else can I try? Thank you in advance!

Best DAC to pair with Sennheiser HD6XX and Drop + THX AAA 789 Amp?
I just put in my order the other day for the HD6XX and Drop THX 789. I am not sure what DAC I should pair with them. I have read a bunch of the posts here and got some ideas but I still can't decide. Right now I was thinking of waiting for the Drop + Grace Balanced DAC or the SMSL SU-8 to drop again or even grabbing one of them off of Amazon. Would either of those be a good pairing or is there something better I should be getting? The only thing I don't like about the SU-8 is that it is silver. The SU-9 comes in black but it's more expensive. My only requirement is that I want it to be balanced. I would prefer something in the $200-300 range but would be willing to spend more if it's absolutely worth it and going to be a noticeable difference. Thanks!

Why DACs /Headphone amps?
I see a lot of DAC and headphone amps on the site, and I'm wondering why I would need one (or both?). I listen sometimes on my computer, sometimes on an iPad or iPhone, and sometimes on an old school stereo with a Sony receiver. All of these are compatible with headphones, so what's the purpose of getting a DAC/Headphone amp? And what is the difference? And do I need both? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this for me. Bob

Douk Audio?
Has anyone had any experience with Douk Audio preamp/headphone amps? I have a variety of headphones that I use, from multi-driver IEM to closed and open back dynamic, including a few sets from Drop. But I recently picked up a pair of planar magnetic from Andover Audio and while they play reasonably well even with just my phone's audio output, I'd like to get a decent entry level amp for some extra oomph. I found a preamp/headphone amp from Douk Audio that seems to fit generally what I'm looking for, their P1; but I wasn't familiar with the brand and wanted to get some feedback if anyone had any experience with this brand or model.
