namhodNice desk pad? Which brand?

BrainFlushYup, weird Logitech G910. I got a really good deal on it, but that is no excuse! I have been protecting my wallet and avoiding the Mech keys community.
Desk pad is Glorious PC Gaming Race. My desk would be awful without it. I built the desk out of about 1.5 pallets. Turned out good, but I wanted it to have that hip repurposed look, so it isn't super smooth or completely flat.
Only complaint on the desk pad is it stains pretty bad.

namhodPro-tip: Go to a lumber liquidator if you really want a wood look. You can buy huge chunks and glue them together to be creative etc. I got a massive slab of granite and cut it for my desk. Same concept just different material. Biggest issue was finding something to hold up 300lbs of stone. :D
Respect man. ;)

BrainFlushYa man. I would rather make something like a desk myself so that ya know it will last. Unlike particle/chip board garbage that a lot of things are these days.

Turned out good for costing next to nothing.

BrainFlushNext one I make I want to do one dark board one light board. Make a nice pattern.
Material costs were less than beer costs. Unless you count them as one and the same!

namhodVery cool! Mind sharing a shot from below of how the legs are mounted in the corners?

JonasHeinemanI will get a shot of it when I get home. Basically there is a block approx 3"x4" inside the corner of each of the legs. So the legs go inside the skirt of the desk, block inside the legs, the block is glued to the legs, the legs are glued to the skirt, and everything is nailed together from the outside in. It is a bit janky but it worked great. These particular pallets had these blocks in the corners and down the middle to attach the runners to, for some reason. They were sort of odd pallets, not like typical ones, but I chose them because the wood actually looked halfway decent on them. The blocks were necessary on the legs for rigidity without them I just wasn't confident putting my full tower PC on it.
We used only wood from the two pallets I snagged from work. My goal was to make something for almost nothing, out of what is considered garbage by most people. I bought one small can of fast drying clear coat, which was ~$15. We used some old varnish, that we weren't even sure would dry completely it was so ancient. I didn't clear coat the inside of the desk, the legs and skirting only got one coat because we wanted them to look rough, and the top got three coats.
I strongly encourage others try this out. My buddy that I made this with was very skeptical at first, "That is junk wood!" As it started to come together he was shocked by how well it was going. Ya gotta understand that pallets are not made from wood that is dimensionally the same. The length will be close but not the same. The width of the boards will be alllllllll over the place. That said, a little bit of creativity and determination goes a long way. Next pallet build will be a shelf, but that will wait until it isn't so nice outside.
Anywho, it was a fun project, I will post a pic of the bottom so you can see what I mean clearly. I might even clean my messy desk and take a pic of the finished product with everything on it! :)
Beer costs were far more than $15.

1) Ferrum Forge Septer 2) Topre Realforce 104UG-HiPro (YK2100), the one I was given my first week at Massdrop (Oct'14). The only time I bought keycaps, I managed to buy a PBT spacebar that didn't match this layout. 3) Mighty Leaf organic breakfast...yeah, I know. I did black coffee for 20 yrs and it stopped agreeing with me recently. Rather, I finally admitted that recently and now it's an occasional, oh-crap-I-might-fall-asleep-at-the-wheel beverage instead of a daily fix.

BrainFlushSorry to disappoint, I'm a keyboard monogamist. But I do get to field test a lot of blades, well beyond what I would be able to if I had to buy them all at retail or even Massdrop prices (insert drop price snark here, if you must). But I swear, it's all for the good of the community. I try to carry all the new stuff for a week, even if I hate it on Day 1. I try to EDC all the folders that we don't have to return after photo shoots, and I have taken more than a few fixed blades out into the woods, used them to baton logs into kindling, etc. How else would I be able to test the sharpeners if I didn't dull the blades properly first :) Kitchen knives as well, my board at home is a hodge-podge of brands and stainless/carbon steels.

JonasHeinemanWell played sir, well played. The brew part especially. I was wondering who would be the first to post coffee or tea.
I too have had to quit coffee, the acidity does not agree with my guts anymore. Check out the high caffeine teas from Republic of Tea if you need a breakfast boost!

JonasHeinemanI drink Yerba Mate. Perfect thing between tea and coffee for me. As for coffee I drink Death Wish. But not hot brewed. Cold dripped. Low acidity and it's a great tasting coffee which I blend with cacao.
Great info that you use the blades like you do. I'm not a blade guy but I'm always looking. So thank you for having experience for my future endeavors. :D

BrainFlushGotta carry a knife man. Once you start you will wonder how you lived without it! Doesn't have to be something big, or tacticool looking, they are all useful.
I went on vacation a while back, didn't take a knife cuz I didn't check a bag. Felt naked the whole week without a knife.
