Gaming headsets?

more_vert
(Not looking for a headset right now; this is just a random question) I was browsing gaming headset choices at a BestBuy store (not the best selection or place to look at these, but in Arkansas there is literally nothing else to look at audio products other than beats), but I noticed that the entire selection of headsets were not only closed back, but also the soundstages seemed to be much more intimate than most regular headphones I've used. I understand the goal of closed back is so that the mic doesn't pic up whats being played in the headset (I assume), but why are the soundstages of these headsets so intimate?

I'd stay away from actual gaming headsets as they don't produce the best of sounds for the money. Your best option would be getting what the other person said and get a v-moda boom Mic. Their about $30 i believe and then you can choose your headset. Just make sure the cable is detachable as the v-moda will take place of it. Highly recommend. I use a v-moda with senheizer momentum with an adaptor because the cord that plugs into the headset is 2.5mm and the v-moda is a 3.5mm cord. Works great!

BrokennightmareOh, I definitely stay away from gaming headsets, definitely not worth the money for them. Also, as a streamer I'm looking to upgrade my mic to something like a G-track pro... so I can have a new toy and tell people I'm getting it for my stream heheh

I haven't been into audiophile level gear for very long so I can't speak with much experience but from what I have observed and learned so far is that gaming companies seem to think that intimate=immersion when in fact the opposite is true. I have a Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum headset which i just use in stereo mode because the whole "7.1 surround sound headset" thing to me is bullshit. I'm using a desktop usb mic and recently ordered the Tin Hifi T3 IEM's and the Massdrop Hifiman HE-4xx (openback planars) to pair with it for gaming to see which works best.
I use a pair of Phillips X2's with a V-Moda BoomPro cable... works for both PC and Xbox. Fully open back are the way to go if you don't need noise isolation. Never heard anyone complain about hearing my sound leakage into the mic. Running my Atmos Surround system while gaming sure gets me noticed (must mute when not speaking).

ElectronicVicesI've got a Philips MC-320 speaker system with a vintage Realistic Highball mic, so sound isolation is no problem for me either, and I find that those speakers are actually pretty near perfect for gaming in my opinion... though I'm not as well versed in speakers as I am headphones
