Here is a bit of what the DIY stuff is looking like. Pardon the mess, the dust, and the cigarette ashes. Garage is the smoking room for the house. Small board is an AMB σ11 and the large board is the aforementioned AMB M³. A couple of R-Core style transformers hanging out behind them.
search
The board in the chassis is another AMB M³ along with a tiny AMB σ25 regulated power supply holding an AMB σ78 low noise voltage regulator. The board with all the lovely red caps is a cheap CIRY audio Ti/BurrBrown PCM1794A balanced DAC I sourced from ebay.
search
This is just a pile of freak boards. Many more of those AMB components as well as a gaggle of random Chinese PSU boards I sourced from eBay. Most of them are viable, even if I have to jumper or dead-bug.
search
Traaaaaansformers. So many transformers.
search
The board on the top left is a cheap tube preamp kit I snagged from Amazon. Came with cracked 6j1 tube, lol. The two other boards on the top are those Pete Millett Korg NuTube buffers. Everything else is relay or power related. Hey, more trafos.
search
Tuuuuuuuuubes and a few jack components.

Resistors, and Caps

Electro-mechanical, Connectors, and some more power related components.

Even more Jacks, Sockets, Connectors, and Terminal blocks.

Piles of diodes, rectifiers, and regulators. All 2 and 3 pin crap.

Waww. Seems like my dream environment. I really like to put my headphones on and spend few hours with soldering iron. Damn. I need to buy the house with garage:))) Nice. Kim

Daaaamn, beautiful set-up! Wish Schiit had that black finish for all of their products.

Thank you, and I wholeheartedly agree. The black just makes it look that much nicer when its out in the open. I'd love to see a black Fulla 2 From Jason and Mike one of these days.

Office: 788 with HE560v2 (I think). Not shown: Emo Basx A-150 for the baby KEFs. Bedroom: a Magni/Modi. Living room: Valhalla 2/JDS OL DAC. Both with Chromecast Audio for wireless optical input of (mainly) Tidal. Lots of headphones lying around: 4XX, 600, 6XX, 7XX, SR80e, etc. Thinking about something a step up. Elex, whatever. Should add that all this is kind of overkill. I'm 70 with the hearing to show for it.
* McIntosh MC30 monoblocks (I did a ground up rebuild on them) * McIntosh MX110Z (recapped by me) * Garrard 301 (built the plinth, refinished the chassis & cleaned/rebuilt the insides), w/ an SME S2 improved tonearm, Shure V15-iii cartridge w/ a JICO neoSAS S stylus. * JM Lab Daline Speakers

I recently purchased a liquid platinum (have had it for a month). What do you think of yours? Do you like it or have you moved on from it since this photo?
I am new to this. But very happy so far.

My Updated rig. I added the SMSL SU_8, SH_8 balanced Stack. And the HD6XX phones. I love the sound these headphones produce on both amps. The 598's are not as great, but still great.

I've been trying to justify "climbing the ladder" for a few years now, but the stuff I own really doesn't leave me wanting more. I've even gifted away some of my favorite headphones to people in my church, like the Panasonic RP-HD10, Sennheiser HD 58X and Creative Aurvana Live!...and the Superlux HD668B and Audio-Technica ATH-M70x...and a few more. This hobby is so gratifying, I just can't keep it to myself! EDIT: I jokingly call the DA-300USB/Asgard 2 combo "The Earedeemer". It really makes the DT 990 PRO sound pleasant and musically-enjoyable, ha-ha!
(Edited)
search
Have a relatively quaint, tiny stack then.
LG23
How do you like that combo?
raansire7
Other than how well priced it is? Solid sound. Beats the hell out of the Fiio E10K I had previously. Smooth. Warmish. Powers the couple MassDrop sets I have (HD58X/M220) and those Beyerdynamic Customs with zero issues whatsoever. Damned loud at 10, 11 o'clock on the 58X, for instance and I'm not at all sensitive to volume. Build quality for the spark is phenomenal. Only downside is it seems to get pretty warm. Uber's pretty good too, but seems to have a similar warmth to it.
The stack grows taller... Now like a tower at this stage.

Hello my Friend from New Zealand. Thanks for offer and links, but this is my passion too. Want to build small rack by myself ( just as a hobby and enjoiment:)) You can not even imaging how I agree with you about Jotunheim for traveling. Around 9 months ago I sent back my Jot to manufacture with some issues. Schiit repaired and sent me my unit back, and everything for free. Around the same time (9 months ago) I left 3 different comments as Leonid Kim on youtube video, in addition to all your words about Schiit Jotunheim. Coincidence? Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-bRPEBxhq4 last week got Pathos Aurium and R2R DAC, Two(x2) THX 789, and HTC Cavali tube +DAC from Drop. I am quite new in tubes, but definitely looking for x2 of 6922 series tubes for Pathos Aurium and x1 for HTC Cavali. On top of some tubes for La Figaro 339 (picture of my Tung Sol 5998 tubes collection was posted somewhere above) Have started from the cheap one. Already ordered 3 Russian 6N23P Reflector and picked up locally PCC189 tubes (very cheap 7 NOS NIB tubes Zaerix brand for 30 USD) and Tesla E88CC on ebay 2 tubes gold pins for 26 USD But the most desirable for me will be: 7308 = E188CC or 8223= E288CC and the king of the 6922 series CCa (bloody pricey :(( All Telefunkens are very overpriced, may be they are good? Dont know yet. This is a link to Tesla E88CC 2 tubes on ebay, where I have ordered from. 26 USD for 2 tubes is very good price. Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/E88CC-Tesla-NOS-gold-pin-Telefuken-construction-matched-pair-and-balanced/163734678076?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Also Jot will stay with me forever as my wife's gift. Regards Kim And keep ROLLING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. Got it. I think I will follow your recommendation. Cheers, Kim

First thing first, what is your problem ? Indicating with all the proper structure and paragraph, means you take it too seriously in argument. Me replying to you makes me feels like an idiot. So in reflection, what does it reflect on you, you think about it !
Sarcastic means whatever you said its meaningless, as for me I mean what I said with the true intention. If its to annoy me, then you are in the lost here.

My desktop setup got upgraded. Finally received my THX 789. Have it running through XLRs from SMSL SU8. Emotiva A-100 powers my Fluance Signature Series speakers. And the amazing Ether CXs are my go to at home. Also have Sennheiser HD6XX, Modded Sony MDR-Z7, Ikko OH1, and Tin T2. Thinking of potentially selling my Emotiva and getting SMSL DA8 for speakers to minimize the amount of space my stack takes up.

Yea the more I thought about it the less I wanted to part with it. So will be keeping it.

I have the Topping D50 also, very good little dac. 9038 ESS Sabre sounds wonderful. And my LG V40 cell phone has the built in ESS 9018 dac, sounds wonderful also. Way better than dac built in Snapdragon 845.

Very nice setup for the money. I'm surprised to see the DIY box for the Tone Board looks so plain. I thought there were more interesting boxes available?
LuckyLuke575
There's an aluminum case that gets shipped from Audiophinics in France that has a design printed on it. This is plain because prior to it being shipped to me it was a solid chunk of polycarbonate. ;) It's a 3d printed case whose plans I found on ASR and I had printed from treatstock. Utterly plain, but I could have had it printed up in nearly any color!

I get great use out of these at work. At home I plug this guy into the balanced out of a Cavalli Carbon 2.0 from a TEAC DAC with an Effect Audio Eros II 8-wire cable.
Homemade clone of a Bottlehead Crack featuring timber harvested from 5 spent skateboard decks (skated by me), 5mm aluminium top plate with prime number ventilation, custom surfboard resin volume dial, a Tungsol 12AU7 preamp tube (NOS), and a Sovtek 6AS7G power tube (NOS). I call it the Skater Crack, and pair it with my Senn HD600s. Sublime ;)

I spoke with Justin who builds that amp. He says that the pendant is the quietest amp he has ever built. Zero hiss no background noise and has very defined sound that is slightly forward on presentation. The mogwai has more body to the music so isn't as accurate maybe as pendant. Mogwai is a more warm sound. So it is really a preference.
Twisteddzyne
Have you tried the Mogwai ? Is the pendent sound like any other warmth tube ?
Updated rig! No headphones pictured as they are all hanging from mounts attached to the left side of the desk. The Sony sub is also below the desk. I am very happy, this is pretty much my end game. I have relied pretty heavily on the used market for a lot of this and am happy with the prices I got for a lot of it. Option 1: PC -> Fiber Optic -> Aune X1s 10th -> Schiit Sys -> Marantz SR4500 -> Micca MB42X-C's/Sony Sub or Atom Amp or Little Dot Mk III (too many tubes for tube rolling) Option 2: PC -> USB -> O2 + SDAC -> Schiit Sys -> Marantz SR4500 -> Micca MB42X-C's/Sony Sub or Atom Amp or Little Dot MK III Not Pictured: SMSL SA-98E: Powering some speakers in my garage Bravo Ocean with upgraded tube: Bedroom, might move the O2 to the bedroom. Looking for a decent cheap DAC to go with the Bravo Ocean after I sold my Topping D30 and Schiit Modi 2 U to get the Aune X1s which I don't regret doing in the least. Fiio Q1 Mk 1: At the office Headphones: At Desk: Argon Mk III, HD 6XX, BD DT Pro 770 250 ohm, BD DT 990 Chrome SE 600 ohm, AKG K7XX At Bed: Superlux HD 681 and AKG M220 At Office: Sony MDR-1A and Superlux HD 668B Commute: Sony WH-1000xm2 W/Dekoni Suede Earpads

Sold my Schitt stack and moved up with a Mytek Brooklyn DAC. One small box replaced five little boxes with the assortment of cables and wires. I also added an Audioquest Jitterbug. This system is a huge improvement and sounds as clean as it looks. I also have a Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable on the Sennheiser HD 700s.
