CyberthingyWhere'd you get the tower? That seems like it would be a great setup for external usb drives.

medievalmattLooks homemade... and sturdy as hell!
Good to see this post, was looking to design a rack myself for my equipment.

CyberthingyI see you have a pretty good spread of amps, how does the SU-8 rank among them?

ohsigmachiThe SU-8 is a DAC rather than an Amp but of the 3 DACs I have I suppose I prefer it the most. In reality I can't tell a difference in audio quality between it and the Topping D50. They have the same DAC chip but I like the feature set of the SU-8 and the form factor. It's physically larger and provides the balanced output to my HP Amp. The only improvement I could ask for would have been a black color versus the silver.

CyberthingyHi. Do you have some buzzing noise when connect SMSL SU-8 via Optical Coax or Toslink?

kimdeugUnfortunately I have not tried optical or coax connections. I’ve only used Usb and have had no issues. I have tried toslink to my D50 without issue.

CyberthingyThanks. tried yesterday with power filter again. connected as follow: AKG 7XX>>Emotiva A100 BasX >> RCA>> SMSL SU8>> Toslink>>Computer. ANY music on pause, Emotiva volume on MAX ( No Music) = Very bad distortion and Buzzing When Connected directly SMSL SU8>> via USB>> to Computer. Everything is Good. No Buzzing. Strange?

kimdeugThe emotiva a100 is known to produce some noise (was it hum?) as reported at Headfi.com when jumper is played around with. Not all units, but sounds like it is apparent in a number of them.

HeavyboxerNo. I have tried another Dac's to Emotiva. It is deadly silent. The problem in SMSL SU8 only. You can see my setup under my profile pictures. I have quite experience in this area:)) Regards, Kim

HeavyboxerMy experience with the A100 is that is is very quiet with larger 35ohm and up headphones but have not tried with very sensitive IEMs. I moved it into another setup after I got my Massdrop X THX AAA 789 amp. Me likey very much, but for the money the Emotiva is still a great single ended option especially considering the amp section that drives speakers.

CyberthingyWhat are your thoughts and experiences with the Shuoer Tape and Loxjie P20?

ZenosI have not tried pairing the Shuoer Tapes to the Loxjie. I use the Loxjie exclusively for my Dynamic Over Ear Headphones. If I get a chance to try the combo I'll update you.

CyberthingySorry if I was unclear. I don't mean those 2 paired together, I just mean their performances separately.

CyberthingyAlso, I'd like to know what the Blon B20's sound like through the Loxjie P20's balanced output.

ZenosWell, I really do like the Shuoer Tapes. They have a lot of detail and pretty solid bass. I can't say they blew me away at first but the more I listened I really started to appreciate their tonality and slight V-shaped sound. I generally prefer a Modest V shaped sound so I don't need to use EQ. They really are nice. One problem with buying so many earphones and headphones is that you don't really get to use any one set for extended periods because you feel guilty not using them all. So i tend to rotate regularly with my top 5 or so and any new sets that I may have recently acquired. In addition I switch between over ear desktop rigs and my portable IEM rigs so I really tend to lose track of what I liked and why. I say all that because the Loxjie P20 has not seen a ton of use and I really have not taken the time to break in the tubes I put in it shortly after I got it. I actually bought several varieties of tube with the intent of eventually rolling the tubes to see how the sound changed. So far I'm still stuck on the newly installed Western Electric tubes I bought for it. I do really like it so far but I am hesitant to form a final opinion until I have more listening time. I also got sidetracked tinkering with a new (used) Darkvoice 336SE amp I got off ebay. I have been evaluating it mostly with my ZMF Aeolus headphones as I feel like they are a pretty nice pairing. Since the Darkvoice came with a variety of tubes I had to see how they differed. It's all very time consuming and I just don't have a ton of time to dedicate these days. I'll have to revert back to the Loxjie soon and see how it fares against the Darkvoice. Sorry if I can't be more detailed but I will say both the Tapes and the P20 are great values and should be considered based on price to performance attributes.

ZenosI haven't spent any time on this pairing as I have read that planars and tube amps usually don't generally have good synergy. However, I did plug my Monolith M570 headphones into the Loxjie and I thought they sounded pretty damn good together. The reason I did that was because a buddy of mine had just ordered a P20 and was thinking about buying a pair of M570s and wanted to know what I thought of them together. Since the M570s and the B20's are nearly identical I would assume the B20s would sound equally well with the Loxjie P20.

CyberthingyThank you for the reply, this information definitely helps. The last detail I would like to ask about is how the Loxjie P20's sound performs with a balanced output from a dac vs a non-balanced output from a dac. If and when you do get the chance to spend some time with Loxjie P20 and if you decide to test this for yourself, let me know your findings.
