Updated rig! No headphones pictured as they are all hanging from mounts attached to the left side of the desk. The Sony sub is also below the desk. I am very happy, this is pretty much my end game. I have relied pretty heavily on the used market for a lot of this and am happy with the prices I got for a lot of it. Option 1: PC -> Fiber Optic -> Aune X1s 10th -> Schiit Sys -> Marantz SR4500 -> Micca MB42X-C's/Sony Sub or Atom Amp or Little Dot Mk III (too many tubes for tube rolling) Option 2: PC -> USB -> O2 + SDAC -> Schiit Sys -> Marantz SR4500 -> Micca MB42X-C's/Sony Sub or Atom Amp or Little Dot MK III Not Pictured: SMSL SA-98E: Powering some speakers in my garage Bravo Ocean with upgraded tube: Bedroom, might move the O2 to the bedroom. Looking for a decent cheap DAC to go with the Bravo Ocean after I sold my Topping D30 and Schiit Modi 2 U to get the Aune X1s which I don't regret doing in the least. Fiio Q1 Mk 1: At the office Headphones: At Desk: Argon Mk III, HD 6XX, BD DT Pro 770 250 ohm, BD DT 990 Chrome SE 600 ohm, AKG K7XX At Bed: Superlux HD 681 and AKG M220 At Office: Sony MDR-1A and Superlux HD 668B Commute: Sony WH-1000xm2 W/Dekoni Suede Earpads

Nuraphones? Ew.
Sold my Schitt stack and moved up with a Mytek Brooklyn DAC. One small box replaced five little boxes with the assortment of cables and wires. I also added an Audioquest Jitterbug. This system is a huge improvement and sounds as clean as it looks. I also have a Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable on the Sennheiser HD 700s.

I bought this Korg nutube dac/amp recently. It's not particularly powerful, but it drivers my iems great. It sounds tubey, and has great soundstage. A very unique and wonderful piece of equipment. :)

I purchased this from a seller, microwavemont, in Japan off the website tindie.com

Thanks for the info. It looks like there have been a few iterations of it. It's good to see that someone is interested in the nutube. I just hope it can generate enough interest to come down some in price so I won't be so hesitant to experiment with them. I can't justify burning them out at $50 each...

Great info. Thanks! Decisions decisions. :-)

It depends how you going to use it. Someone mentioned that they had it and returned cos it was hissing and heating up badly, not mine though. No hiss with Tin T2 and slightly warm but not hot when in use. And, I don't use it as a pocket device. I use it as desktop, take to work/travel/night stand unit with headphones no IEMs, so it fits my needs. By the way, it was on sale on Monoprice web when I got it

My current setup. Not included are my hd6xx that my wife uses most of the time. Currently it is mostly LCD4Z and the Noble Khan that get the most use. I will replace the hugo 2 with the tt2 at some point in time. I had one on order but it was like waiting for the thx 789 so I went with the hugo2 and mscaler instead.

Excellent gear you've got there! Also, cool that your wife likes good headphones.

Massdrop are not in competition with companies like Sennheiser... they’re customers of Sennheiser. Sennheiser makes a profit no matter who sells their stuff.

How is the HP amp??
After doing tons of research online, I've finished my office setup :) I love the comfort and clear and bright highs/warm mids of the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs. The FiiO is a great DAC/Amp that works plugged into my computer or iPhone (for when the work internet isn't playing along). I have a Tidal Hifi membership, so I play FLAC and MQA music streaming directly to the DAC. I recently got the silver plated Ablet 2.5mm TRRS balanced cable, and it made the headphones sound great! I love listening to Grateful Dead live albums all day long, zero fatigue, just pure audio enjoyment.

@LuckyLuke575 You don't feel that money would be better spent by buying Hi-Res music from HDTracks.com or NativeDSD.com? Spending $20+ a month on Tidal you could buy a new album every month. Then you could take it with you anywhere and play it anywhere and wouldn't be limited by device or wifi connection strength. That's how I ended up feeling and I dumped all those streaming services. We don't even use Netflix or Hulu anymore.... lol. I mainly watch Youtube and Twitch anyway....

I've definitely thought about going the buying music route, especially because the FiiO can process DSD and high res PCM files. But I've decided that getting my music from Tidal is the best option for the following reasons (just my own thoughts, not saying that this is the best way or valid for everyone):
  • Storing high quality files needs a lot of disk space (esp. DSD), and then I still need to replicate the music files across the different devices that I use
  • The streaming service makes a massive catalog of music available, which allows me to discover and listen to new bands and albums
  • I listen to at least 30 different albums on rotation, while discovering new albums weekly, so there would be a large upfront and ongoing cost of purchase (I see the EUR 20 per month as fairly pricey but also great value)
  • Tidal allows for FLAC and MQA albums to be downloaded to my 256 GB iPhone, so I can listen to music on the go without having to stream. I have a very high speed and uncapped internet connection at home, so that's not an issue. The office wifi is sometimes a problem, but I have my phone as a back up there
  • The Tidal player has settings that allow direct data streaming and MQA passthrough to the DAC, which bypasses the Windows audio decoding layers / settings
  • I had a large music library in the iTunes / Mp3 days, and it was a huge hassle to manage, and an experience that I don't want to relive
  • Digital music quality is a whole discussion on its own, but for my purposes, I've decided that I'm happy with FLAC 44.1 kHz/16 bit, and MQA (96kHz/24 bit as I understand it) when available
  • I like the consistent user interface across all my devices
  • I like being able to click an info button and read a review / description of the album that I'm listening to (the backstory)
I agree on your point about Netflix and other video streaming services. I cancelled my subscription to Netflix, but only because I spend so much time listening to music that I ended up never watching any TV! haha

its a disaster area. Lol. I started my love affair with Senns and cutting the lawn believe it or not. Lol. I was like shit these 497s are dope. Then upped to 598 and then 650s. I also have the game ones. Then picked up audio tech 50x and vmodas I use with the xDuoo w the burson op upgrade. I commute to nyc and there is nothing like laying down the new Flume release while walking through a packed subway or manhattan street w Vmoda bass. It’s just a soundtrack to life. One of my fave things to do.

I also have the April Eximus dac amp and adore the thing. Is the questyle amp a decent upgrade over the one in the April? I've had several quality amps for it over the years and none have particularly bettered it.
Jayrock
Me too I love my eximus! The headphone section is really good, I think the questyle is better. Def worth a listen.

This is nice man. Should be having plenty enjoyment already. But there is some way to go with DACs/Amps if one spends $200 - $300 from where you are.
