A subtle difference There's alway been something that bugged me about the appearance of the SKX--the overall presentation always seemed kind of busy and distracting to me. By contrast, the SRP777 has all the same/similar markings but those visuals seem to work more harmoniously. So what's the difference? I was comparing the two this morning it finally clicked for me. Look at the size of the font on the SKX's bezel compared to the font on the SRP777's bezel; it's a subtle but significant difference. The SKX font is bolder and tends to compete with the markings on the chapter ring. I was alway lukewarm on the Seiko Sumo for the same reason--the bezel font there is crazy big. I definitely prefer the arrangement on the SRP, but I admit if I actually was a diver, 50 or 60 feet down in the gloomy abyss, I bet I'd find the SKXs bezel much easier to read. What's your preference? Bracelets in the photo are Strapcode Super Jubilee and Strapcode Super Oyster, by the way.

I find the SKX case nice and somewhat smaller were the turtle cases have more body. I did notice when on holidays - being close to actual dive instructors, I saw a lot more turtles than SKX's. In short: I like them both.. But I do see your niggles!

There are so many Seiko divers, it's befuddling. I actually set up to buy one more than once, and was faced with so many choices - with too much research to do to truly grasp those differences - that I never got to do it. Now, I think I would gravitate towards one of the recent reissues (62MAS, the more common reissue).

BobrazThe "Willard"? I'm sure that would be a good (but pricey) choice. I like the dial and case on that watch, but I'm not sure about that strap size. From the perspective of authenticity, it seems correct, but compared to the strap size on an SRP, it looks a tad anemic, no?

For me, I like the bezel on the SKX but like the SRP hands better. 😊

I can’t really see a difference but Rolex says strap code can’t use oyster or jubilee anymore so they changed to super j and super o I don’t know if your aware of that or if you care just a little tidbit

ED61Shocking! No, definitely didn't get the memo on that one. Must have come up fairly recently because my order was only placed a couple of months back and its got Jubilee and Oyster all over it. Frankly, I always thought those were kind of dumb-sounding names to begin with. I suppose now every manufacturer who claims to have a Day/Date complication will soon be hearing from a pack of Swiss layers? What kind of world is this?! I think I'm going call up Mr. Rolex and give him a piece of my mind--mickey mouse damn company that they are!

Now now, let’s not get mark from Long Island into more trouble with those bracelet names; I believe legally they are now the Louis and the Boyer. Out of seikos entore lineup, the skx series is the one that just always befuddles me. I don’t care much for the history or actors who’ve worn the watch, and I just enjoy my srp, turtle and samurai more. Better movements, and you can either save $50 to give up a Lume pip and 100 m water resist and get an srp that will have raised and applied indexes, or you can spend an additional $50 and get a turtle/samurai with same specs and a better movement. I can see someone choosing the skx if they are really into modding or they simply need a smaller watch.

it just hit me. The Seiko skx is actually the Honda Civic. Great base form/shell, which you can customize to your heart’s content, including swapping out the ‘motor’ for a better one. Meanwhile, the actual Seiko movement 4R series is pretty much a small block V8 - great performance, great value, and you can shove it into pretty much anything.
