How to add a subwoofer to my Edifier S1000DB?

So I've bought Edifier S1000DB based on all the raved review (literally no negative reviews). I bought it knowing that it doesn't have a sub out, but based on all the reviews that literally EVERYONE is saying the bass is amazing and you'll never need a subwoofer. I don't know if it's me or what but coming from Logitech Z-2300 (2.1 PC Speakers) and in comparison you can tell there's a huge chunk missing in the sub bass range. So now I'm stuck with it wondering what I should do next, there are a few options:
  1. Sell it and buy something else, this might be the most logical option but I figure they look really nice and the mid and high are actually not bad, on top of it I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle again.
  2. It's currently hook up to a FiiO D3 running through the RCA connector, so I can still run another parallel connection through Line Out to subwoofer so if I get a powered subwoofer with Line In then this could work, but I'm not sure how I'd adjust volume on both units simultaneously.

I don't know, I figured I sorta shot myself in the foot by buying a powered speaker with no sub out. And despite all the raved review I still feel like they really should've had a sub out option also the driver (5.5") really is not big enough to cover "full range". What do you guys think? Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

I decided to test my theory on equal ground so I brought my Logitech Z-2300 PC speaker to my TV and hook up to the same source. I even take turn to place them on the wooden stool so they're playing at the same height/distance so it's fair for the comparison test (except Logitech subwoofer in middle and Edifier has no sub). LOL excuse the mess since I'm testing but normally it's not this messy.

As you can see here, the picture is taken when I was testing Logitech Z-2300, when I test the Edifier S1000DB I'll place them on the same stool.

The shocking thing is, I think I actually like the Logitech sound better as a whole despite the fact that the satellite speakers are tiny. The Edifier just sounded a little bit thin and lack low end, granted I think it has a little bit more detail in the mid range but the Logitech just feels a bit more punchy and clean and more "full range" as a whole. The Logitech also is cheaper. Brand new it's about half of what Edifier costs and these days you can find it for wayyyyyyy cheaper on second hand market.

Honestly if it weren't for the crazy wired remote I'd probably just use the Logitech as my TV speaker, but since it doesn't have a remote it will get quite messy if I end up going this route. I still haven't got around to purchase the subwoofer yet but looks like in the long run that might still be the best choice given the situation. Just find if funny how 10 years later and about 1/2 the price and I still like the Logitech Z-2300 better. :P

Get a DAC with volume control, and a remote. Run RCA splitters to share the line output between your powered speakers and a powered sub. Something like the SMSL Sanskrit 10th, for under $100. https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-Sanskrit-High-end-Optical-Coaxial/dp/B07J9YSD9R

Some active subs have RCA/XLR input and output. So, the RCA signal goes to sub first, and after from sub to speakers.

kimdeugI thought about it before but usually subs doesn't come with remote control, so I was wondering if I need to physically walk over to turn the volume knob everytime that seems kind of tedious LOL.

I have the (almost) identical S2000 Pros... honestly, just wait for brain burn-in. They're super balanced, and once you adjust to them you won't be missing anything. I changed to the S2000's after having Wharfedale towers that could reach well into sub bass frequencies, but since the edifiers are so cohesive, I have no complaints. And I listen to a lot of EDM, so I like bass a plenty, though I'm not a bass-head. Don't know if any of this helps. I like your setup, btw.

AznablereyThanks for the reply, I actually didn't think I'm a bass-head but now I start to wonder if I'm actually a bass-head LOLLL (Denon AH-D2000 as my main headphone). Though another thing is that I use it on TV so sorta help to have big bass for explosions when watching movies. But yeah maybe I'll just keep listen to it a bit longer and see if the physical burn in and mental burn in helps. Thanks again for your response!
