Out of control Moderators?

more_vert
Who else has noticed the new trend of massdrop moderators hiding comments? Even worse is that if they hide one of your comments, they won't tell you. Plus, it will still look like a normal post so you cannot even tell they have hidden it, but everyone else can. This seems like a pretty crappy new trend and I am hoping with some complaints from the community they stop this practice now.

You should just ban RayF from posting on the site at all. 90% of what I read from him is abusive and trollish and I've wondered why he wasn't banned years ago. He wouldn't last 2 seconds on the extremely large forum I help moderate.

Or maybe you just can't math? The first post in this thread....pay attention now.....6 days ago. As is the first post in this thread which I assume you're referencing... https://drop.com/talk/23063/massdrop-is-now-drop/2417287 Ray's post in that thread......5 days ago. Now we got time travel involved.
Do you have an example of a post you believe should not have been hidden? We are working with a new program to moderate by community and I'd appreciate feedback and examples to improve the process. Thanks
We gave a lot of consideration to the options you mentioned, but the primary target of the hide feature is 90% spam posts so we didn't want to notify them that their spam attempts were not working. However, more functionality around the flag/moderation features is definitely on the way. Ideally I would like users to give a reason for why a comment was flagged and implement some automation that would allow users to amend their comment as you've stated. My personal preference is to be completely hands off in terms of how users behave, but some people simply enjoy ruining things for others and for now I have to do my best to fairly moderate those interactions. Thanks again for your comments. I appreciate all the input I can get from our community members.

AlexPkThis is why we cannot have nice things. Thanks for listening and I trust Massdrop will find a way to not loose what made it such a successful platform and community for enthusiasts to purchase and discuss their obsessions and experiences.

Can assure you we only hide stuff when we absolutely need to. And though we have the power to [edit] stuff, or completely delete it, sometimes it's the better option. Above everything else we just don't want to censor people. Your post here, for example. No need for moderation. We stick by guidelines just like other sites with the ability to freely express yourself.

I think you're both right here (@D_Man_905) as far as having a super clear understanding of where the boundaries are. While we do have discussion guidelines, (and have posted them in the past) they aren't inherently obvious, nor have they been posted in a while. And it's also with the advent of " "new" " tools (hiding, etc.), though these are common elsewhere, that they deserve not only revisiting, but republication/resurfacing. I'll be working on addressing this in the near future. I think we owe it to you guys to be super clear about what we police (bullying, spamming, trolling, super offensive language, etc.), what we don't (harsh reviews, personal project promotion, a tasteful amount of swearing, etc.) and things in between. Appreciate the feedback as always, guys. Thank you 🙏.

DuncanI wonder if you look at this task as being similar to herding cats. I'm not sure that I would want it. If the proposition the all the important stuff is learned in kindergarten is true, then I must surmise that there are those who skipped this grade.
