Do you have an example of a post you believe should not have been hidden? We are working with a new program to moderate by community and I'd appreciate feedback and examples to improve the process. Thanks

AlexPkThis conversation seems to be an example. Of course I cannot see the hidden posts but the original poster seemed to think they were never hidden and that he had done nothing wrong. I hope this helps and thank you for the reply.

zaphrodboxThanks for taking the time to find that. I think part of that should be hidden and part modded. It is overall pretty benign in terms of content, but still completely unnecessary. Will go take a look at the whole conversation again. I guess the question is: would you rather see comments on the site that don't add anything to the discussion, attack or make fun of other members, or are simply people bickering at eachother?

We requested a hide feature because even though a number of comments were purely antagonistic or toxic in nature, I am very opposed to complete deletion of content and we really had no other power to deal with them. Additionally, as we roll out moderation by community, "hide" will allow myself or someone else to review the decisions made by others and reverse them if needed. The argument against being concerns with censorship of course, but frankly some comments are deserving. As a side note: I typically just edit out the parts of comments that are blatantly offensive and move along, but RayF has made it abundantly clear to me that he would rather I delete his comments than modify his message.

AlexPkI think at the very least a person should be told when their post is being hidden and maybe even given a chance to edit the post so that it can be un-hidden, and maybe the rest of us could see a category for why a post was hidden e.g. toxic, offensive, etc.. Thank you for the reply and explanation I appreciate you taking the time to explain anything considering it is not required by any means.

zaphrodboxWe gave a lot of consideration to the options you mentioned, but the primary target of the hide feature is 90% spam posts so we didn't want to notify them that their spam attempts were not working. However, more functionality around the flag/moderation features is definitely on the way. Ideally I would like users to give a reason for why a comment was flagged and implement some automation that would allow users to amend their comment as you've stated. My personal preference is to be completely hands off in terms of how users behave, but some people simply enjoy ruining things for others and for now I have to do my best to fairly moderate those interactions. Thanks again for your comments. I appreciate all the input I can get from our community members.

AlexPkThis is why we cannot have nice things. Thanks for listening and I trust Massdrop will find a way to not loose what made it such a successful platform and community for enthusiasts to purchase and discuss their obsessions and experiences.
