Lucky for me, the Colab brand name marked on my SN000001 Jubilee headphones is and always will be, MASSDROP. Come on guys. Drop? It's such an unlucky name that implies a lot is going to drop for you guys. Start your job search....maybe?

bsastorThat's exactly what I thought. "Massdrop" on my headphones is totally different from "Drop".
bsastorMassdrop made products will still continue to be branded Massdrop.

erickongThen I'm curious as to the brand change. Is Drop the new parent company to the Massdrop brand in the way Alphabet became the parent company to Google? I'd be hard pressed to purchase anything the with the Drop logo on it.

rcrandychuSame company, different name. Moving away from the groupbuy system

erickongWould @steve confirm this statement? If so, if your site is completely dropping the pretense of offering any significant discounts "for group buying power!" going forward, that certainly explains a lot (and makes the decision even easier as to whether or not to continue supporting very tepid deals in hopes that things will turn back around) You CANNOT continue offering average retail prices AND continue asking people to wait a month or more to get their order...it just isn't going to fly for much longer like that I very much like the new logo in how it works for the knife community. Very simple, clean, unique, and perfectly shaped to fit on a pivot. But a LOT of very good points are being made here in regards to the name in general. Awkward for word of mouth, TERRIBLE for search engine optimization, completely nondescriptive. You HAD a unique word going for you, that still remained reasonably short, easy to remember/spell/type, and was already somewhat well known. I believe you would've been better off keeping the name and just coming up with a better logo instead (even if you ARE officially ending your group buy strategy. It's not like you were called GroupBuyDrop) If all this is going to end up being now is an average retailer with more limited product options, and a handful of unique "Drop made" items, those unique items should be KILLER deals...and lately that's not the case either. Collab prices are all over the place in the Blades community, each new item getting more and more expensive when compared to similar previously released items, and not a single staff person will speak to the blatant price gouging, to even attempt to rationalize it. (the latest is a micarta handled knife that is priced over 40% higher than 2 previous knives of the same blade material, similar size, and full titanium handles...seriously?!) More and more lately this whole place has a feel of greater separation...a company tweaking their profit margin higher and higher, while the staff sits behind 2-way glass studying the guinea pigs for signs of being pushed past the breaking point.....and then willfully ignoring those signs. We still have a strong community of members here, but it no longer feels like that includes staff.
KavikElbert Suen from the collaboration department confirmed this (the comment about product branding). I definitely get where you're coming from.

KavikHey Kavik - thanks for tagging me. No, we are not moving away from the group buy system and having products discounted on our site. It is true that we're investing more in making awesome products based on community feedback, but that doesn't affect our plans to keep listing products made by other brands at the best possible price.

steveThanks for the response Steve I guess I'm still a bit confused then, as fewer and fewer items I look at are actually listed lower than average retail pricing lately....and many can be found cheaper elsewhere with 2-5 day shipping. Nor am I seeing the value in the blade collaborations lately....the pricing model there (as detailed above), is a jumbled mess....like people are throwing darts at a price list Guess I'll continue watching for what might be worth joining...but my activity is definitely waning around here lately

steveThanks for replying Steve (wow the CEO replied to my post and i just read it a week later, sorry) I understand your standpoint for the name change. Not staying stagnant and "swimming in the old pond" is a good thing. However I'm just a little sad seeing the Massdrop namesake go. It has been a great time shopping here. The community is always very helpful and strong. Let's just see how it goes. But lemme just state that there's no shame in going back to being MassDrop in the future. Cheers.
