Anyone done a full-sized Arcade cabinet build?

more_vert
I want to build a 2-4 player arcade cabinet loaded with a bunch of classic arcade games on the cheap. There is a lot of info floating around on the internet, kits, etc, but I haven't heard any first hand experiences. I see some useful components here on Massdrop and wondered if anyone has any input as a starting point. Please and thank you!

Would full-sized Arcade kits be something you think the average maker would be interested in seeing here?

Kris_KI would probably start with a countertop "Barcade" or sit-down "Cocktail" cabinet and see what the interest is. I can't tell what's going on with the format and if we even have polls anymore, but I think the Bartop is probably the sweet-spot for an initial drop.

G-DeuceI have to agree, although how awesome would a full sized kit be?? I want to say that I’ve seen a bartop style kit come through once before, but I may be mistaken. A cocktail cabinet would be interesting, although it seems like games are much more limited to PacMan and simple “vs mode” games. Good to see Drop staff joining the conversation nonetheless.

I built one in law school (2003ish) while I was procrastinating studying. There are lots of sets of controls out there on ebay. Gold standard is probably still Happs Controls with a Hagstrom keyboard encoder if you are using a computer and emulators instead of a jamma board. I just looked up the Build Your Own Arcade Cabinet website, BYOAC.com and it looks like it may not have changed since I made mine.

There are also vendors that will sell you the full wooden chassis for a cabinet pre-cut and flat packed so all you need to do is buy the electronics and install.

Still very impressive. Something like that looks like it does need to be resurrected! That is more or less what I’m looking to do. My DIY knowledge for something this is minimal, however. It would be cool to see a drop sometime.
