I've honestly stopped visiting and spending time on the site since the changes to the layout. Before I could just click on "Discuss" and I'd go directly to all the audiophile threads / content. The impression that I got with the new layout is that Massdrop wants to suppress the discussion section of the website. Oh, and I also didn't get the point of the change of the name to "Drop". Was does drop mean? Drop in quality? Drop in options? Drop in benefits? Drop in interest? Drop in product availability? Drop in product range? This kind of silly decision is made by palookas sitting around a conference table trying to fix something that isn't broken, and end up ruining it.

LuckyLuke575Pretty sure this is EXACTLY how I feel. When Mass "dropped" from MassDrop it even took away part of the "d" which surely makes it feel like something is missing. I also spend less time on the site as it has become harder to navigate (more annoying anyway) though pretty sure they did make some changes from the initial "revamp". *Update* Massdrop made sounds so cool, is the new stuff "Drop made"? Rethink the marketing there.

LuckyLuke575Thanks for the feedback! I'm a Product Designer here at Drop working with Duncan to improve the Interests page. We definitely don't want to suppress the discussion section of the site and feeling of community. I'd love to ask you more questions; I'm going to send you an email with more info.

Derek4RealI've been on other forums where what I said was suppressed and it wasn't b/c of any policy violations; been on other forums...past tense, they lost me when that happened one too many times. Having said that the discussion section seems to have worked itself out so thanks for keeping this important part of the site/decision making process alive.

AK770Man, they only stand to lose from doing that. Even if people are giving them a hard time, that means that consumers are:
  1. Engaged with the site (and producing content free of charge)
  2. Seeing product that's for sale (and are being driven to purchases along the way)
  3. Providing real time visibility of preferences and improvement ideas (again free of charge)
Given the above (and likely a host of other valid reasons) they're not going to stop me or others from telling someone that e.g. their "opinion isn't worth a rat's ass" and other noise/bullshitting/throwaway comments/nonsense/etc to that effect, if you know what I mean.

LuckyLuke575Sadly, after the purge, it's hard to know who's left to reply to--so many of the these discussions link to ghost MD employees and members.

RayFYeah, that's the crazy thing, that these guys appear and then disappear again. I think the management got scared of being the next WeWork and started to clean house. The SF / Valley hoax pyramid scheme is gonna collapse eventually. Although I have seen quite a few suggestions implemented which is nice.

LuckyLuke575Well I certainly hope they can hang on, or mount a comeback (depending one's point of view) but I'm not sure the whole "Knives, Audio, and Watches-R-Us" model is long-term sustainable? I know they're counting on me keep them afloat with more watch purchases, but damn it man--I've only got two arms!

RayFYeah, they can definetly rename the site "Brick-a-Brack R Us" with all the overpriced and over hyped trinkets and man-child items for sale lol. On average, they're relying on the keyboard warriors to carry the business. The biggest flaw in their model is that they don't sell anything that constitutes recurring revenue, so once people buy what they need and get bored (or go broke) then the sales dry up.
