Defcon Bladeworks Proelia TX010 in D2/G-10
search
The TX010 is, on paper, extremely similar to the TX020, and indeed the literature that ships with each knife lists the specs for both models. They're both supposed to be 8 1/2 inches 22 cm long and weigh 8 ounces on the nose.

As you can see, they do share the same dimensions, and they're both around 8 1/2 inches long when open - I'd say 8 5/8ths inches. Both these knives are well lighter than 8 ounces. The TX020 tips the scales at 196 G or a little under 7 ounces. The TX010 has a slightly heavier blade at 207g, or 7.3 ounces. It's more or less the same thickness and same length but it has the thumb stud and it's milled out less than the TX020, and has some titanium nitride coating it for good measure. The TX020 is flipper only -- you can open the knife using the blade aperture if you want, but the flipper tab is much much easier. It's one of the reasons I was so taken with the TX020. The TX010 has both a flipper tab and a thumb stud, and when I opened it the first time it took MUCH harder of force than the TX020 did. I figured 'brand new knife, feels like an aggressive detent lockup, give it a spot of lube and play with it a bit and see if it loosens up' and went and did all those things. And it loosened up a tiny bit. So I decided to take it apart and see what was what.

At this point I started scratching my head, because I could see no reason at all why it'd flip differently from the TX020. It's got the same bearings -- I think they're steel, not ceramic, but in very nice cages with some precision to their manufacture. Nothing looked like it was rubbing. The detent was a little sharper, maybe, but not that much more. It turns out the difference is very mundane -- a tiny difference in the angle of the handle and a small difference in the geometry of the flipper means you can just get a bit more leverage on the flipper on the TX020 because it sticks out just a little bit more. What that ends up meaning is that between the two knives, if you prefer flippers, give the TX020 a go. If you like thumbstuds, go with the TX010, because the knife flips open ridiculously easy using the thumb stud when compared to the flipper. So much better that I think most people comfortable with both styles of opening will end up opting for the thumb stud. Here it is back together, with the red lightened a touch for slightly more of a tiger stripe effect:

The weight of these knives will be a bit too much for the high speed low drag folks, but those among you who like rugged knives with heavy lockup and reinforced materials, will find plenty to like.
