Watch timing machine, timegrapher, etc

more_vert
Friends,
Do you own or use a timing machine? If yes, why? I mean which of the data ( that the instrument provides) do you use and how do you use it (I mean what benefit do you get out of it?)
Being a nerd/enthusiast, I know exactly what data a timing machine provides and how it works, but here I am just curious about how YOU (a watch enthusiast) use this data and specifically which part of the data (which measurements)?
thank you in advance,

My question to you is let's say you get a timing machine and determine that your watch has some rate or amplitude error. Then what? Are you going to take it apart to clean/lubricate and adjust/fix it? If these errors are severe enough you would notice that your watch is gaining/losing even without timing machine. If they are not severe enough your watch can probably tick happily for years and years to come. I recently talked to a watchmaker from Rolex and he advised me not to send watch for service unless it actually severely affects time keeping because there is no benefit to pre-emptive service. They will bring any watch up to their standard regardless of it's state for the same (very expensive) price so it's not like your car maintenance - you are not saving any money by doing regular service of watches.

I don't have one. I've thought about getting one, but I would mostly use it to see how much time a watch gains or loses over time. I have been doing that lately by comparing a watch to an atomic clock sync. I know there is other data you can collect from a timing machine but I'm not sure how I would use that data.
