Mordax Detent

more_vert
Has anyone else had a problem with the first run Mordax detent? I ask because after a lengthy wait mine finally arrived a couple days ago. I flipped it a couple times and noticed it was hard but figured it would work in. I proceeded to check it out and found some side to side blade play. No problem, I carefully tightened the pivot just a tiny bit, problem solved and noted centering was now perfect. GREAT. Then went to flip it again and my finger slid right off the flipper. OK, I knew the detent was tough but THIS? Tried again and got it to open. Tried working it in and after a handful of flips my finger was sore to the point I couldn't open it any more. Fortunately for me the factory is close by and I intend to take it there for service but disappointed doesn't begin to describe my feelings about this knife. Not one, but 2 out of the box problems from a manufacturer that supposedly does quality work? I've never had this problem with a We manufactured knife. Will update post repair.

IConspiracyIYes and no. Lubed the pivot and worked it in and behold, flips again. I played with it for a day or two and detent got softer, and softer. And softer. Now if I hold it closed where gravity pulls the blade down, the blade point hangs 1/8" below the handle. This is unacceptable. Was going to drive to Protech to have it looked at (they're about 45 minutes from me) only to learn they ONLY take repairs via mail and it will be a couple weeks. At this point I was so fed up I put it in my case and haven't looked at it since. IMO, a quality knife this is not. I have a Tangram ($35) plung lock that works perfectly after thousands of cycles. Same with my Hogue. The only good thing I can say is the color is pretty.

Knife hadn't been able to flip for a long time. Did the lube where Erhon said to put it. Knife flips perfectly again. Thanks.

I got the plain black handle version to go along with my other Pro-Tech Knives. No issues with the detent on mine, but I feel like mine drops shut too fast when compared to my Protech Cambria first run. I was also hoping for that polished Stonewash that protech does so well, however this mordax came with a more dull / matte stonewash. Not sure if it was intentionally different, but I was a bit bummed. I would like protech to more of their own push button folders in the future. For now I will keep this one.

This happened to me too. Put some knife lube (I used some benchmade blue lube) on the button lock and pivot. Open and close the knife with just the button lock a couple times and try again
