You just described the Sennheiser HD 6XXs, except they're open backed. If I could make a suggestion, if you're listening in a public area, the noise will cancel out a lot of the benefit of high fidelity headphones, even with a closed back. So I'd either get IEMs that passively block out external sounds, or take your pick of any overpriced, mediocre-sounding noise cancelling headphones. I'm not rich, but I've had to get different headphones for different environments and purposes because it's impossible to find it all in one.

GuitarStruckGuess this is just like fishing and photography...so glad I am single, though a supportive wife could help BOTH of us get what each of us NEEDED! Kinda thinking that was what would happen. The Sony MX3 does a good job at blocking external noise, but...they do not sound very good. Wth the HD 6XX's, do I need an amp or can I use just my phone? Have my mind on a pair of headphones and the 215'a will carry me over, until I get a better sounding headphone and just cannot listen to them anymore!!!

mpicassoI have the Sony MX3's, and although they're mediocre in Bluetooth mode, they sound remarkably good in wired mode. They lack detail, but they're extremely musical and dynamic, super fun to listen to. They probably have a bit more bass than your preference, but it becomes addictive. Try them wired, it might solve your problem and delay a big purchase. You can keep on the noise cancelling during wired operation, it seems to help with the sound quality and the wired connection prevents the headphones from automatically timing out and turning off. The HD 6XX's need some pretty serious amplification. They're not designed for the analog output on a cellphone and I haven't even tried.
GuitarStruckOwn a V20 and the HD650 (on which the 6xx is based) and if there is ONE phone I would actually consider using those with it would be the V series from LG. They have a 2 volt max output when "high-impedance" mode is active which will give you over 13 mW at 300 ohms. It takes roughly 11 mW to get the 6xx/650 to 108db SPL which is more than enough headroom.

ElectronicVicesYou would suggest the HD 6xx over the Sony, wired setup, then? I don't listen to much through headphones, anymore, just because of not getting the appreciation from the sound being RIGHT THERE, but looking for something to take with me while walking, sitting at Starbucks and working, etc
mpicassoOwn the MDR-1000x (first iteration of the Sony) and the 6xx/650 sounds much better. The Sony's are great for noise cancelling but if you don't need that then I would go 6xx. Also the first gen Sony's sound better with LDAC BT than they do wired. They were already bassy and the wired with ANC is more so, wired without ANC is almost unlistenable.

ElectronicVicesYes, the two headphones are completely in unrelated sound categories -- it's like comparing a Porsche to a golf cart. As you increase the amplification quality, the difference becomes more obvious.
