I think the problem is that they may be finding it hard to do the "drop" style buys where people sign up and get a lower price if more people join. The product "drops" when people join in "mass". Keycaps still work this way. At some point I think there was a meeting where someone suggested 'dropping' the 'mass' so that they could explore more traditional pricing. No one is going to compete with Amazon on price, so I'm not sure what the long term plan is here. My suggestion is to focus on finding unique products and compete on quality. I for one don't have time to troll every site out there looking for new cool things, so I would like *drop.com in my life.
