There Are Pandas, and Then There Are Pandas.
And this isn't either of them! The Pandas we're talking about here, are watches, not bears. And what got me thinking about them (again) was a link posted this morning by @cm.rook who pointed a few of us to the very attractive (and not terribly priced) Yema "Rallygraph" Panda which, in it's most traditional arrangement, looks like the one on the left, but can also be had in the version on the right: The model on the left is a true Panda, while the model on the right is called a reverse Panda. The reason for that distinction is clear--Panda bears, only come in the first arrangement. Now at this point, everyone should be thinking about the most well-know Panda, The Rolex Panda, which is actually a Daytona, and among Rolex Daytonas, the most famous of which is the Paul Newman Daytona, which was famous first, because it was Paul's, and second because it sold at auction for $17.8 million (US Dollars). This sausage has been made for 4+ generations in a small mom & pop grocery store in Kansas where my father worked there as a kid. It has a rich smooth flavor with a hint of smoke. I live in Boulder, CO where there's plenty of foodies and this dish comes highly recommended whenever there's a BBQ or celebration. To order the sausage call (620) 947-3501 ($3.99 lb).
It's best paired with a local mustard (Sweet & Tangy) made by a literal grandma who created Grannie's Mustard. You can find it here (http://www.grannieshomemademustard.com/order.htm) .
Instructions: Cut links into 2-4 in sections. Next you'll need to make a cut lengthwise half way into the links pushing sides out to lay flat. I like to use my knife to press the inside contents flatten to help lock in the juice. Grill each side 4-10 min (until inside is a light golden brown) and serve with Grandma's mustard.
You can serve it straight up (my favorite) or add it to your favorite pasta salad or pasta dish. Whenever I've introduced it to new people it's never disappointed.
