Hello, Drop.com Audiophile community! I'm the owner of DFWcomposites, a small shop based out of Dallas, Texas, that specializes in manufacturing carbon composite parts. Some of you may be familiar with some of our drops from the EDC section of the site that we've been running since 2015. I wanted to quickly share our latest product with you guys: a carbon fiber (and stainless steel or exotic wood) headphone stand. Hoping to socialize it with you all to see if we can gin up some interest in a drop. You can find out more about it at www.dfwcomposites.com, and if you like what you see, please let us know here!

It’s gorgeous, thank you for sharing I’ll be picking one up for my new Senni’s! As soon as I can decide which carbon fiber pattern I want! It would be pretty cool if you added the weave color options to the stands as well, particularly the copper!

How high are these? with and without the base?

MaisharI’m not sure if the base is removable, I didn’t see that but they are 10” tall.

It needs some padding on top those headphone holders if not will ruin all the headbands with cushions like the Sony MDR Z7 and Sony MDR Z1R. There are many like them.

HIFI778They come with felt pads to put on the top for just that situation. It’s pretty deep in the product collection page, but I found it. it was be nice if they rounded that top bit also, like a hat brim.
Link has a syntax error (http://www.dfwcomposites.com%252C). The Carbon fiber looks well-made, and the cable management is a nice touch (I don’t mind the wide “neck” to hide the cables and show off the fiber weave). I think carbon fiber with the blue metallic weave is sweet! And I think plenty of people here would go for the copper strand version too. I wish the “head” was curved or v-shaped: it distributes the weight over the headband padding more evenly, or at least only leaves a divot where I want some ergonomic relief (and my headphones like the HD 58X Jubilee have a divot by design anyway).

These look really awesome, and definitely just in time as I'm starting to look around for a few stands. I would definitely be interested. Would the range of exotic woods be the same as displayed on your website, or would there be any new ones offered? Thanks

That lookes awesome. Could you do a blue heat-treatment on the base or gun blue?

Thanks for getting back to me. I found this online: You can color stainless steel, but it is not a process that is typically performed in a plating shop. The basic process, which was developed by Inco (International Nickel) in the 1970s, is to immerse the stainless steel in a chromic and sulfuric acid solution at a temperature just below the boiling point of the solution. A thin layer of chrome oxide forms on the stainless steel, and by controlling the thickness of the oxide layer you can obtain colors that vary from bronze to blue, gold, purple and green. After treatment in this solution, the stainless steel is rinsed and given a cathodic treatment to harden the oxide layer. The layer can vary from 0.02 µm to 0.36 µm; the thicker the layer the darker the color. Most commonly, 304 grade stainless steel is used. The coating is reasonably robust but will scratch. ARTHUR S. KUSHNER Blueing or blackening like they do for guns. Blackening is often called black oxide and they do tools as well. Parkerizing is a version for guns I think. There is an older process called browning they used to do on guns, but I don't know much about it. Finally, I've heard of people heating the steel red hot and then dipping in used motor oil to get a neat effect. I guess you know heat will make a neat gold blue purple rainbow effect on shiny steel, but it comes off easily. You might clear coat it. Other than the above, you're probably looking at plating or paint. JAMSCAL
TwoBachSounds like something you’re ready to try!

Some photos in your website include a grip for the cables in the back and some sort of cloth on the top. Are those included?
MaisharHi, all stands ship with the cable management hooks and a felt pad that can be applied to the top of the stand. Items can be easily applied at your discretion

Is there enough weight on the base to keep the center of gravity low and prevent the stand from tipping from a full size, heavy set of headphones?
Cofresi55Yes, the stands were designed so that the center of gravity is always over the base no matter when the headphones are placed. If you have some really whacky headphones I can't speak to that but we tested with a wide variety of different cans. The steel base version is especially hefty
