A Question for All Dive Watch Enthusiasts

more_vert
For those of us who like dive watches, I'm curious as to how many have actually gone scuba diving at some point. For example, I have a PADI certification that I haven't used in 28 years, but I have been a number of times. I'll admit that the dive watches I buy today are primarily for water resistance on the boat, at the beach and in the pool. So fess up -- have you ever been scuba diving? And if not, what's the draw of "the dive watch" for you? Cheers! Gene

I love the look of dive watches, but I'm not even a good swimmer. However, I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so now I'm looking at aviator watches that have a rotating slide rule bezel, lol!

I don't dive, never have. I predominately wear dive watches. I like the styling and mainly the simple functionality of the timing bezel. Way more water resistance than anyone would ever need is also a plus. Can take a shower or jump in the lake without worrying about totaling a valuable watch.

Most of my watches are dive watches, but I’m nervous washing my hands with a dive watch on. Actually, in summer I think I sweat too much to safely wear dive watches, but I do anyway. Before I got into watches I used to swim, including some open water. I had a Speedo-branded LCD watch that counted my laps (there were two electrodes that were triggered when my hand entered the water) and gave me some feedback. The smartphone era stuff is probably more sophisticated.

Well I’d like to tell you about the 27 gold bars I salvaged from a Portuguese Man O War in 600 feet of shark infested waters off the cost of the Dominican Republic, last summer, but the truth is:

Or dive, for that matter. Nope, I just wear ‘em ‘cause I like ‘em!

Like you it has been a while since I've been SCUBA diving. Still find dive watches handy for timing parking meters, pizza pick up etc.

Lol! No. The draw for me is the aesthetic. A typically rugged construction and design, ready to be used and bruised (a reason why I also love my G-shocks); great legibility with clean dials/hands and lume; and tech specs/peace of mind that comes with the 200m+ ratings, which means i don't have to worry if i get caught in the rain or take a dip in the ocean.

AsheikmI totally understand. My scuba diving ended long before I was diagnosed with a watch addiction... :-) I think I heard on The Urban Gentry's YouTube channel that he finds the dive watch to be the perfect combination of both features and aesthetics and if he could only have one watch, it would be a dive watch. I'd have to agree.
