"Here's my little review of my first experience with my new Sennheiser HD58x" I live in the Philippines, so I had to ship it to my Aunt in US just to avoid the hassle of shipping. And after a few weeks, my Aunt finally arrived with my 58x as a College Graduation Gift. August 21, 2019
*8pm* I've been testing out other Sennhieser products like the HD660s at my local shop. And hearing the HD58x for the first time, I'm blown away by the sound on how closely similar it is to the HD660s for the price point! I'm still testing it now currently and burning then in, but what I can say is that the Jubilee's have more punchy bass than the HD660s. At first I was like "I need an amp for my phone" *haha* it's at max, but it's not as sound blasting as my HyperX are. Don't get me wrong, it's the right amount of volume, but take the fact I was already at max volume but it sounded like it was only 40% loud. Things changed when I plugged it in my laptop thru Audio Jack or my HyperX 7.1 dongle, it's definitely loud hahaha I prefer the 7.1 turned off because it doesn't seem to need it like my Cloud 2 does, it sounds mixed out like the Treble, the Vocals and the Rhythm are all disoriented unlike with my Cloud 2s. I guess it goes to show that the Jubilee's are already clear and wide enough that it doesn't need surround sound(or isn't really compatible with the sound mix). I'm also expecting maybe the sound will change once I break it in for maybe 12 hours. I also tried plugging it with my Quadcast mic, even if it's only 32 impedance, it gets loud playing my Flac Music Files. Sound is definitely really good as expected. It has more rich vocals than my HyperX or any of my IEMs(KZ ZST and Tin Audio T2), and it's not closed when it comes soundstage as the rest that I own(Well of course, it's my first open-back! What did I expect?). I can definitely see that these are more calm, airy and doesn't hurt my ears with prolong usage. I'm still yet to try it out with my PS4. *10pm* After 2 hours of burn-in with my laptop, I tried it again with my phone if there are any changes. I also atomized my phone's Adapt Sound feature to try and get the best sound for me, and to my shock, the Headphones sounded louder now! Still not as loud with my laptop, but I can definitely say it's louder now with my phone. *12am* It's been 4 hours of burn-in and I have definitely noticed it being more relaxed now with the sound, instruments seem further away from each other than the first time I've been listening to them with my computer. I'll still leave them over night to continue with the burn-in. *8am* After 12 hours of burn-in playing music through my PC, the sound became so much wider, airy, punchy and more detailed than what it sounded out of the box. I've also tried it with my PS4, plugged it with my controller and even the 7.1 dongle, and I'm sad to say that it doesn't offer much volume to my liking(was currently playing Days Gone when I tested it). Don't get me wrong, it has sound but it's just quiet. So I guess I'm more determined on getting a DAC/AMP now(planning on getting a FiiO K3), so that I could max out the potentials of my HD58x. *After a week and a day* So I've own this for about a week and a day now, and I am still blow away from the that this produces. At first I've had some issues with the clamping force, but overtime it eventually calmed down and is now a snug fit between my head. I also said before that the sound is quiet when plugged in a PS4 controller or whatever audio jack you have for the console, but when playing in a quiet room where I was the only person there, it seemed to have a good amount of volume to hear distant foot-steps unlike when I was in a noisy room. I also noticed that when plugged in my PS4 controller somehow I've noticed that the battery dies faster than usual(I assume it's the headphones that are doing that since it requires more power to drive than my HyperX). Owning a HyperX Cloud 2 headset, from HD58x to then jumping back to the Clouds again in game had a little different feel for me. It felt like there was no clamping force what so ever(it felt like it could come off at just one head bang), and the soundstage was too close to me that it felt weird to me now going back to it. The HyperX Cloud 2's are still my top recommend when it comes to budget gaming headsets under a $100/Php4000, but going from something as good as the HD58x, it's just changes your perspective drastically. It's just so hard to go back to a closed-back headset from an open-backed headphones. I might miss the heavy bass just a little bit, but with the given clarity of the mids and highs, the vocals and instrument separation with the HD58x, it's just too good to be true when it comes to gaming and music sessions. I'm not saying there isn't any bass in these, the bass is present but it's definitely calmer than bass heavy headsets. So with that note I could say that this is absolutely one of the best headphones I've ever owned and in the market, especially for it's price! It sounds WAY MORE that what it costs, it's so closely similar with the HD660s that I've tried out in terms of sound and build quality. And those are a $500/Php34999 pair of premium headphones while this bad boy only costs $160(it cost $140 for me because I got a $20 discount and free US shipping, good thing I waited since it still saves me $10 from the past $150 price), totally worth it for an all around audio gear. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable headphones for studio, movie watching, and of course gaming! P.S. Only downside, for some, is that it's only available in (Mass)DROP and that they don't ship to every country in the world. I live in the Philippines, so I had to ship it to one of my relatives in US and had to wait for them to arrive here on their visits, that actually saves me even more in shipping because they brought it in on their flight. If you don't have relatives or anyone that you might know in US, you might need to use a Proxy Delivery Serve to have your item shipped for you which roughly might cost you around $200(still worth it though if you ask me).

It's true about what they said that you don't need an AMP for this and you'll still have enough volume with your devices plugged in directly(just maybe not  with the PS4). It might be open-back and there is sound leakage, but with the soundstage it offers, the instrumental separation and the detailed vocals, this thing is hard to beat with it's price point. Highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for high quality audio in a affordable price. Trust me when I say that the 58x performs WAY MORE than $160(especially if you get to buy them for only $140 like I did because of special Drop offers sometimes). I might miss the heavy bass just a little bit, but with the given clarity of the mids and highs, the vocals and instrument separation with the HD58x, it's just too good to be true when it comes to gaming and music sessions. If money aint an issue, use a forwarding company. Im from the Philippines as well, bought the item addressed to the forwarder (shippingcart, jinio, etc.), Pay the shipping to the PH, wait 2 weeks, received the item. Easy.

jmmmYeah, that's what my friend also did before when he bought the "Thinksound ts03". I just really hate the shipping rate that what we have, or maybe it's just my Student Budget mind that's making me think cheap. *haha* This is my first purchase on DROP, but I usually have all my online US transactions be shipped to my relatives because it's convenient for me to avoid shipping *haha* It's just me being in a fresh grad mindset and taking advantage with all the resource that I can get. I still haven't started my job yet, so my savings is still on the "Student Budget" side.
Nice grad gift! IMO, most surround processing on a 2.0 source like music, or everything when your processor (DSP) isn’t recognized as a 7.1 device, doesn’t sound like two speakers in front of you, but rather like an effect. Sometimes processors (like Dolby headphone) try to play the left channels from the front-left, side-left, and rear-left all at the same time, but with room reverb and slight time delays which sounds weird when all mashed together. Movies are a bit better, but they almost exclusively focus on front channels, leaving rear channels to be just an occasional “special effect” rather than immersing the audience in a persistent environment. But for games, which discretely process the sound for each speaker position, I think the HD 58X Jubilee does well! Maybe not with the same “imaging” confidence of placement as an AKG K7XX or HD 800, but definitely better than a stereo speaker system. If you do get the FiiO K3 or E10, you can plug most USB DAC/amps into the PlayStation 4, and I highly recommend checking out “The Last of Us” and “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.” TLOU has built-in surround processing, so it makes the headphone Virtual 3D surround before outputting through USB, and it has some amazing sound design. Sound really helps to track Clickers off screen! Hellblade has some pre-recorded Binaural samples: the main character (and you) hear voices whispering right at your ear, sometimes moving around. It’s very cool! Hope you enjoy your HD 58X Jubilee for years to come! Remember, almost all the parts are modular, and if you don’t want to send it in for repairs, you can fairly easily replace the cables, pads, grilles, and other parts yourself.
I remember being super tight on money... I worked all through college (a sandwich cafe called Panera, work-study for the IT department, and a paid internship for graphic design), but when I graduated, the internship said “Project complete, we don’t need you anymore,” and the workstudy was over, and instead of allowance, my mom charged me rent. Not much, but after 6 months of applying (and volunteering at a radio station so I could meet people and hopefully make connections that would lead to a job), I was out of money so I started working fast food. Things got better the next summer when I started working at Apple computer, but after 4.5 years I had to quit, and a credit card bill error (paid twice) left me with only a scary $100 in my bank account last year! Fortunately, a side job I had during Apple started to kick into high gear, then higher gear, and now I’m thinking I’m not too far from a house down payment! It’s funny, but time seems to pass more quickly with less changing after College. Don’t hide the things you’re good at, put in a little extra effort to participate in the things you like, do what you have to for survival in the meanwhile, and someday you might be offered a dream job you didn’t even ask for. Good luck! 🍀

EvshrugI work in a Events Company where I do DJ, Technical Staff, Media, Client Management and sometimes Security, it was a side-job during my free time since I only had Saturday classes. It was a good and fun experience for me, and it help me with income. But downside is that they rarely call me for work(no work, no pay, or sometimes no pay at all like an intern) and it's difficult getting clients through me(clients usually jump straight to my boss). But even though its tiring and income isn't stable, it's still fun because the job is literally a party every night. Now that I've graduated, I got myself accepted at a job near my grandparent's house(convenient 15 minute ride). I'm just waiting for the agency to give me my working schedule by this week and I'll finally get started. Thank you! I've got a dream job actually at Santa Monica Studio as a Game Audio Technical Designer, but that's like walking to the top of the mountain... I've got a long way to go before I get there. But hey, it's free to dream so might as well Dream BIG.

Nice insight. I too have Time T2 pros and HD58X. In my experience, tin T2, even being an IEM beat out in spaciousness of the sound. But overall, 58X is much better in bass extension and details

sammed92Thanks! I actually have just the Tin Audio T2 and not the T2 Pro *haha* which the Pros have a better cable. Someone actually told me to have just saved up a little bit more so I could jump in directly to the new Tin Audio T3s which had better cables, extra tips and less sibilance with the treble, but I was like "But my GF gave me these as an Anniversary Gift. Meh! It's alright, I'm getting a the 58x in just a few months anyway." And the T2's aren't that bad, they're actually really good! Better sounding than my ZSTs, so no regrets here. Still very happy owning one.
