Same Strap, Different Day...

Still trying to find a dance partner for this grey/grey NATO from Geckota and it occurred to me to give this Heimdallr Steel Tuna a whirl! It's also nice to remind ourselves that Heimdallr is not just a bronze watch company. This steel Tuna is every bit as nice as the bronze version and certainly more true to the watch Heimdallr is copying homaging ;- ) As to the appeal of this strap and watch combination, I'll leave that up to you, the viewer--I've already made up my mind. Meantime, here's what I learned while attempting the switch--it was a bitch! Thank the good folks at Heimdallr for having the foresight to supply drilled lugs on their watches, that feature alone saved me quite a few off-color words as I attempted this minor strap trade. Turns out, there was no way to thread the NATO past the fat spring bars the Seiko straps came with (and really, would trust a good watch to skinny spring bars?). The only way I managed it was to remove the spring bars, lay the strap in place and then install the bars on top of the strap. Takes three hands to do it, but once the pins snapped in place, the whole mess was secure enough to wear confidently. Anyone actually preferring the NATO route permanently, would most likely benefit from a set of curved spring bars--or that nifty tool that makes them. One last note about the strap--it's very smooth, with an almost satin feel to it. That makes it comfortable, but it also makes it slippery. There is no friction between the fabric as you tuck the tail end back over the keepers. It gave me the impression one might find themselves tucking that tail back in, at least a couple of times a day. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some rubber straps to install.
