I want to make a single good cup of coffee in the morning; how do I go about this? I've been pointed to the aeropress by a friend but havent followed through on buying another gadget that would potentially be shelved indefinitely.

HoleyshoezAeropress is great for single cups. There will probably be a little bit of a learning curve up front, but if you figure out a good recipe that works for you, the Aeropress is really easy to use and clean, plus preparation is very quick.

Holeyshoez+1 for Aeropress. I keep one at work and can make a pretty good cup of coffee and have the whole thing cleaned and put away in about 3-4 minutes. If you want something a little more involved, you could also try a pour-over method, like the Hario V60. It's more involved as in it requires you to pour the whole time rather than just brew & press, but I think you can get better flavors out of it over the Aeropress. Also very easy to clean. Fresh roasted, freshly ground beans will always give you the best results. Good luck!

FancyRedFoxYep, AeroPress hands down. Lots of method / recipe options to suit personal tastes. The only 'downside' is that an AeroPress exposes low quality / stale beans. However it gets the most out of quality beans.

HoleyshoezI love using a hario woodneck with its clmoth filter. Just keep the filter wet on the fridge in a baggie between uses. best to use a gooseneck kettle for Control.

HoleyshoezMake sure you get a decent burr grinder to go with it and source fresh beans.

HoleyshoezYou won't end up shelving the AP because the effort to neato coffee ratio is off the charts. A championship level brew from an AeroPress, from setup to cleanup, takes less than 5 minutes. It is the next best thing to espresso (it uses the same method, just with lower force) and is also fun to use.
Ah, stop deliberating— just buy it now and curse my name if you regret it!!!

HoleyshoezI also vouch for the AP for single cups.
I keep mine at work but because I wish to be ever so slightly more environmentally friendly, I use metal filters: so cleanup is ever so slightly more time consuming (+30s).
But there are also recipes for brewing two cups, they are along the lines of brewing potent single cup and adding water post plunge. :)
