The students here use a Moka pot for their coffee breaks. The "burnt coffee" smell that emanates through the hallways drives me nuts. How can one get rid of that smell, without cleaning the pot "inappropriately"? (The majority of the constituency is Italian, and has strong opinions about how the pot should be cleaned.)

succubusThe pot should be fully cleaned after every use as the stuck on coffee quickly becomes rancid and bitter, but good luck trying to convince them otherwise. You could try unscented Febreze to remove the smell.

succubusIf they're worried about it affecting the taste or anything, honestly just let it soak in warm water then scrub it with a clean sponge or towel.

succubusUse the nastiest, most obnoxious-smelling room deodorant spray you can find. Then tell them you'll stop using it if they start cleaning the pot.
