I actually have my first Topre board coming tomorrow; a Realforce 87u 55g. I truly cannot wait. Eagerly looking forward to what I'm hoping will be my endgame TKL.

cbalcom03There's much about this that I'm looking forward to hearing about. This response is being typed out on a Realforce 87u 55g, and there's so many positive things to say about the typing experience. The keyboard has a muted classic taste that is not something you can just plasti-dip the look onto, and the feel of each keystroke is not something you can replicate with Gaterons or Cherry MX. Your feedback would be awesome, considering there's many who won't consider the dive into the Topre foray due to the price tag.

perfectd3I'm hoping it comes in early enough that I have a couple hours to use it for work. But even if not I'll be sure to do some heavy typing and leave some feedback. Thanks

perfectd3Damnit! Damnit! Damnit!! A part of me really wanted to think that this 87u would just feel too much like a regular membrane and I could return it. But no. It is amazing. Even after 30 minutes of using I don't know that I want to go back to my cherry boards! I am being a little dramatic of course. I do still love my MX greens. But this Realforce is just so much of a joy to type on. I just wish there was an easier way to put different caps on it. And from what I hear if you try to put the Novatouch sliders on it they can result in a reduced experience. At any rate I love it and I'm sure now I'm going to have to get a Leopold FC660. How do you feel about the 45g vs the 55g switches. These 55g are a dream.

cbalcom03Gratz!
Welcome to the dark side. I agree, going Topre is "difficult" and costly to fool around like Cherry counterpart, which is a lot of the whole mk fun for me.
I although had a Leopold, but traded it for another RF 87u, being in need/wanting dedicated arrow keys, the HHKB JP had been the clear winner for ME, the other modifier (to much :)) keys can be easily remapped.
The difference of 45g to 55g Realforce is higher for me, than the 45g Leopold had been. The nicest sound stock has the HHKB, no matter which one, and the feel is different to a Realforce. Casemounted vs. platemounted, a Leopold might be more of the same like a RF if you prefer that.
All of this is just me and have a lot of fun!

cbalcom03My opinion: 55g feels like the smoothest typing experience I've ever had, and the difference between the 10g is something I look forward to when alternating to this keyboard. In my collection, the 55g is the most productive piece I own; being my daily driver, and can join me anywhere without complaints of noise or over-the-top aesthetics. That said, my gaming board sports Gateron Clears, with only a 35g actuation force, and you can feel the difference without much effort. If you need raw gaming input, the 55g is not the best fit for the job. But that's the best part: it's never pretended to be a gaming keyboard. The tool that it is, rather than a gaming aesthetic, is truly a masterpiece of simplicity and productivity, and I have no second thoughts about ever getting rid of it.

MakamiThanks for the great info. I am really hoping keycon happens in Chicago so I can try some different boards before deciding on a next purchase. The only reason I pulled the trigger on this one was because it was through amazon and if I ended up not liking it I could just return it. But this thing is going to have to pried from my cold dead hands!

perfectd3I could not agree more. I don't do a ton of gaming. Just Diablo III. I live in email and taking notes for work so that was the driving force for the board (or so I am telling myself).

cbalcom03Its great to hear, your first impressions sound so much like my own. The meetup would be awesome to experience, it sounds like a really good time. What was your prior daily driver?

perfectd3Well in the office I use a pok3r with MX blues and DSA dye-sub caps in a aluminum case. Great since I have to take it on the train every time I go into the office and don't want to leave it there. But when working from home I was using a Varmilo va68m with MX greens. I prefer the heavier switches. I really think it's going to be hard to make myself use the Varmilo now that I have this 87u. Are you using the same for your daily driver? Also do you know of any cap sets to spice up this board a little (I don't tend to like artisans)?

perfectd3How did you manage to get a high-up picture like that when I can clearly see you peeping over the edge of the desk? ;-)
