I recommend using your phone only as a source and buying an external DAC/Amp.
I use the EarStudio ES100 MK2. I also recommend buying better cables such as Hart Audio Cables.

I can tell you that even my nokia 5130 Xpressmusic from the last almost 2 decades can drive this headphone, it can play music with my Nokia as loud as with my Motorola Moto X 2014. I didn't look the specs of each phone but definitely they play very loud. Unless you got hearing loss, both phones can easily deliver power to the 58X and without changing the frequency response at all. Otherwise, with moderate hearing loss for example then yes you need an amp in order to reach more loudness.

Depends on your phone. But yes most likely. Using a portable amp will make any phone battery last longer.

LG G8 Kicks ass and drives them nuts , sounds strong enough on 35-50 volume knots out of 75 with that HI-FI QUAD DAC activated.
Works fine on my Meizu 15th too , since it's so sweet , but even finer when external DAC attached .
The short answer is Yes , preferable when your device has a decent DAC in it with AMP built in .

TL;DR The better the quality of you device's DAC, the better the 58X will respond. No need for amps on this one.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: They won’t sound like the $160 you paid for and you will also need to crank up the volume quite a bit.

SimonLiuI disagree, conditionally. There are phones out there with good headphone amps, like the LG V-series and current G series. They require no external amping and would output great music with these cans, 150 ohms isn't beyond most phones for that matter. You can also get something like a FiiO BTR5 and those will rock these hard especially if you get the optional 2.5 mm balanced cable.

KimmoJAbolutely works amazing with my LGv40. A small portable amp will keep the battery from getting emptied faster than a leaky bucket.

It depends on your phone and what you consider "working". I can get decent sound from MY phone but why? I would not use these outside of the home and if I'm home, I would not listen to my phone.

As everyone else has said, yes. Ideally you'd have an LG G6/G7/G8 or V20/30/35/40/50 for that extra output power, but my S8 will drive them if asked.

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?
I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones. Looking for a gaming/content audio setup
Hello! I'm looking for recommendations on audio setups. I'd be planning on using it mostly for gaming. Preferably I'd like a pair of large closed back headphones since I have a big head and jaw. I'd also like to hear myself through my mic with mic monitoring. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one. But under 600$ would be nice. I can go higher if needed. The audio setup would be connected to a high performance PC. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.
