EDC without weapons?

more_vert
Is there a way to get EDC updates but not get all the knives. I live in a city in a first world country in 2019 and I just don't need the level weaponry that's being advertised here. Bottle opener? 600 wallets? Pointless fountain pens? Rulers? Keychains like it's the 90's? Sure. Hook. Me Up! I'm just not living the life where I need 10 different ways to shank someone.

I feel the same way Matt, I can't afford to keep purchasing these great knifes. Seriously, this is an online store and needs to sell its products to be successful. If the products they are selling aren't to your liking, I suggest going elsewhere.

Knives are tools you dope...if you look at a knife and see a weapon then you're troubled one.

I think we all have our own ideas about EDC handy to have, vs EDC weaponry. To my mind a couple of these suit both purposes:

First world country, no need for knives for shanking people on my shopping page hahaha! This reminds me of the people that were saying headphones made in Russia were somehow evil and needed to be boycotted. No separation or granularity, just reductive judgement.

At the risk of speaking in cliches: this is a matter of personal attitude. You can see knives as weapons or as tools. You can see them as status symbols or to signify ruggedness. You can pocket them to use them, or to be seen with them. You can think of someone with a knife as a would-be shanker or a fearful potential shankee, or just someone who opens a lot of packages. It’s frankly the same for EDC gear. You can see it as useful kit, or you can see it as toys for twentysomethings. You can see it as an ounce of prevention or you can see it as just one more way people try to trade money for status. You can think of people who really and non-ostentatiously use everything they carry, or you can think of the ones for whom it is a contest, like the stockbrokers comparing their business cards in American Psycho. What’s EDC mean to you? I don’t know. I can guess that you have a sense of humor about yourself vis a vis what you buy on Drop. I can also guess that you already know that knives aren’t necessarily weapons, and that you were more voicing frustration at being repeatedly shown things you didn’t want to buy, than anything else. I am down with that, if so. Perhaps not and you really do think of them as weapons first. Me, hell, if that were really the way to see it, okay. But if people are going to arm themselves, and we are speaking of knives and attitudes about them, I’d rather set a tone where people chose a knife as their weapon instead of a gun. Knives don’t go through the wall and kill someone down the block. You gotta have the willingness to close with someone and then shankity-shank-shank to kill someone with a knife, which means people with knives look more for a non lethal alternative than they might if they were locked and loaded. Non lethal alternatives usually turn out measurably better than lethal ones for all parties involved. We are too quick to kill. It takes resolve to kill with a knife. These two things work hand in hand. The truth is most people reading these words don’t really need what we buy here, just as we never have, and thankfully never will need to engage in lethal combat, elective or otherwise. We shop Drop as entertainment.

Maybe there's a way that they can send me all the knife updates you don't need.... and they can send you all the EDC updates I don't need. Like you, I live in one of the first cities of the first world in 2019 as well and like you, the nature of my life is out of step with what's being sold in EDC. EDC is for people who gotta go to their problems. Mine come right to me. I don't need a pocket when I have a workbench. Besides there's a social aspect to all this. I worry what people might think of me if they saw me browsing my email and see all those flashlights and other metal doohickeys. Srsly I bet we could get this done if we tried. Like a swap. A switcheroo. Win win. Sounds like the motivation is there on both sides.
