This thing isn't actually a dagger, and there's a reason you might not want to call it one. Why it matters enough to point it out: daggers are legally restricted in some locales, so some folks either won't buy your knife if you call it a dagger, or could conceivably have cause to regret that they did. To me, that's a drop point. Maybe a spear point. If the top edge were sharpened, you'd have a folding dagger. That doesn't even look like a false edge. But this is actually good news for most people who plan to use their knife for EDC tasks anyway -- it means that this thing will slice things much more easily and nicely than a dagger. Daggers aren't great slicers because of blade geometry. So there's that as well. Two cents.

reswrightI agree with all of this. As ridiculous as it sounds, calling this a dagger puts it firmly in a legal grey area in which it's design alone would not place it. I don't think my state calls out daggers specifically, but Bowies, switchblades, dirks and "like kind" are illegal to conceal carry. Dirks and daggers are certainly close enough in definition for an aggressive prosecutor to ruin your day.

NotsurewhyibotherThat’s it precisely. AFAIGAF they can call their stuff whatever they want, but state and local laws can either be damningly precise or entrappingly vague when it comes to knives. weird little things like the one you mention mean that for some types of knives, to have one in your pocket at all is to run the risk of a concealed weapons conviction... even if they themselves aren’t legally banned. I mean, I understand knife crime is a thing, but so are prosecutorial overreach, targeting and arrest quotas.
