This man completed an epic solo traverse of 120 passes in the Himalayas in 4 months carrying ultralight gear! His name is Peter Van Geit and you can read about his epic journey here: ultrajourneys.org/transhimachal2019/. He "completed 120 passes over 4 months (one per day) covering 3000+ km and 175 thousand meters elevation gain across glaciers, alpine meadows, canyons, high altitude deserts, wild streams, forests passing through 341 beautiful hamlets in the states of Uttarakand, Himachal and J&K." What is remarkable is that he did it in a minimalist solo style, carrying his own ultralight gear. This is highly unusual as most hiking in the Himalayas is done expedition-style, carrying heavy gear with big groups, porters, mules, staff and guides. I think this may be relevant to the ultralight backpacking group. I hope this encourages more people to go ultralight and self-sufficient in the Himalayas. Full disclosure: I made the custom ultralight quilt with vapor-barrier inner (blueboltgear.com/products/solo-quilt) that Peter used on his 4-month trans Himalayan journey.
