Hello, i am not sure if this is how i chime in on that raffle for free stuff, but i'm all about that free stuff... Oh was i supposed to ask a question? Okay, how many of the owners of HD58X have taken off the foam bit under the metal mesh? And if so, did the sound quality change better or for worse?

I like the increased bass the foam provides, so I don't take it out.

I took mine out a while back and have never put them back in. Getting the extra soundstage and mids/highs made the headphones sound sooo much better for MY taste of headphones. YMMV but I'd highly recommend trying it out if you haven't done this yet.
SimonLiuOh yes, i took mine out after short while of listening and they indeed got much better for my taste. Might try to put them back in just to see how they sound like now after months of not having them in.
DroppyMacDropfaceI’d be curious if you heard a difference after you put it back in... if you still have it.

I've taken off the foam without doing any other modifications. Overall, it reduced bass and gave the mids/highs slightly less distinction but with more soundstage. I imagine placing foam over the driver itself would help rectify this and bring it back to how it originally sounded, which I prefer, but haven't tested out yet.

I have had mine for about 9 months, so far no temptation or motivation to modify - I like it the way it is
