Thoughts on Wooden Pens

more_vert
Hi All, I'd like to know your thoughts an opinions on pens made of wood. Things I'm interested in are shape/contour (and whether or not that is an important factor for you), price, weight, wood type (as well as color, grain structure/density). Also, RIP this community. I'm sure there are better places to buy pens anyways :(

RayFThanks for your input! I appreciate the more detailed post you did down below. I'm actually thinking of using real pen parts, rather than the generic kits, for reasons you mentioned below.

I love wooden pens. I am lucky that my father makes them, but the beauty of them is that no two are identical and the varieties and styles are numerous. I prefer a bigger and heavier pen due to my hand size.

Mal71It's lovely to hear that you prefer the lack of uniformity among different pens. Thank you!

Mal71You've put your finger on the problem--"people" make them! Doesn't matter how well they make the outside of them because they all use the same generic kit-pen parts inside. The only thing they have in common with real pens is that they write. If that's your criteria, buy a bunch--you'll save a lot of dough. Kit pens are like kit cars; they look similar to the real thing, they'll (generally) get you from point A to point B, but they are definitely NOT the real thing. If you require further explanation, you are speaking to the wrong person.
