Tenkara at Lapland

more_vert
I would like to take a Tenkara rod to Swedish Lapland to have fish as my secondary food source.
I got the Owyhee rod and tried fishing locally in a stream without success.
However, the condition around here aren't great at all (Jordan river, Israel) and I guess that I'll have better change fishing in Lapland.

The thing is, I'll have to plan ahead.
Do you think fishing in a fish farm will be an effective training?

Whether you're catching fish or not, any time spent setting up your rod, tying the knots, and practicing your casting will be effective training. If you plan to fish rivers in Lapland, then fishing on your local river will probably help you most (what type of fish are in the Jordan?) - but the fish farm sounds fun too!

I think I'll go for the "enjoy the trip" methodology, as this is the reason I bought a tenkara rod in the first place. Though, I will buy an extra line or two and a bunch of flies.
I didn't find any special regulation about disinfection, but I know Sweden regulations require a license that can be purchased in Abisko (where I start the trail) and in many other places as well.

Per Dave's excellent suggestion, get a 30m spool of #3.5 or #4 level line so you can cut multiple lengths (start with a line the length of your rod then add a few feet of tippet), a couple spools of 5x tippet, and a few dozen flies based on local recommendations (I burn through at least two flies per hour on a good day).
